25.01.2022 With all this action demanding a better future, you may also be wondering- what else can be done that I can control. If you missed our special Living the Change Neighbourhood Night, fear not, the recordings are now online- https://tinyurl.com/y2xgrr5r. Here is Matt Moore, who joined our panel to talk about Uniting's very impressive leadership in ethical investing. If you want to know what it takes to divest from fossil fuels- have a listen! And check out speakers talking about community energy, zero waste, and very inspiring social enterprise let by Blackwood Uniting to convert old bikes into sustainable treasures. #Uniting4Climate #LivingtheChange #eppinguniting #neighbourhoodnight https://youtu.be/AZ-8ioVZsag

24.01.2022 Forget Netflix, here is some great Long Weekend viewing. It’s called: "Electrify everything: Powering economies on clean energy" and is the latest Australia Institute Webinar. Speakers are Saul Griffith and Danny Kennedy. I found it painted both a very positive and very achievable future (depending on our choices). Here is the blurb and the link. Electrify Everything is a global movement arguing that the quickest way to decarbonise and get to net zero is through the widescale... replacement of all combustion fuel technologies with electric alternatives. Saul Griffith and Danny Kennedy are two US-based entrepreneurs, working to revolutionise the American energy systems and build an entire clean energy economy for American households and businesses. Join us to hear how all Australians can benefit from the electrification of our energy system and the risk we face by continuing to cling to fossil fuels. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06rSZYChgpA

23.01.2022 A great video that explains why climate justice is also indigenous justice. #FundOurFutureNotGas #Uniting4Climate

23.01.2022 There is still time to register for the launch of the Uniting Climate Action Network. The network will support members of the Uniting Church community who believe care for creation and action on global warming are important aspects of Christian faith and discipleship and want to act on that conviction. https://aus01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/

22.01.2022 Today the Uniting Church in Australia joins the School Strike 4 Climate Global Day of Action. We stand with our young leaders and First Nations young people who... are calling for a COVID-19 recovery that is good for the planet and good for us. THANK YOU to everyone who has showed support sharing photos, posting on Church noticeboards and hosting local or online actions. Thanks for the great photos shared to our Working for Justice - Uniting Church in Australia circle and in Uniting Earth NSW/ACT Group. #FundOurFutureNotGas #Uniting4Climate #BuildBackBetter

21.01.2022 The NSW government will abolish stamp duty on electric vehicles and offer drivers thousands of dollars in other incentives to increase uptake as part of an ambitious $500 million plan for battery-powered cars to constitute more than half of all new car sales by 2031. But EV drivers will be hit with a road-user tax within six years to fund road and infrastructure spending, as state governments look for ways to compensate for the loss of fuel excise revenue.

20.01.2022 Happening in 5 minutes :)!!

18.01.2022 Allison Forrest is a UCA deacon candidate living in North Parramatta. She's created a simple online action for anyone in the Parramatta and surrounding community to represent and show solidarity with the global day of action on 25th September. This action isn’t for church members only, it’s for anyone in the Parramatta area, so the more widely it’s shared the better.

15.01.2022 Message from one of the newest members of the Uniting Advocacy team #FundOurFutureNotGas #Uniting4Climate Scott Morrison's Office - Federal MP

15.01.2022 Sorry, attached the wrong link last time. Michelle Grattan succinctly states the climate policy challenge facing our Federal government (and the Federal Opposition) in this ABC article. Hopefully the federal ducks will sniff the wind (to mix metaphors), both within the Australian community and internationally, and line up with the others who know change is inevitable and also a great opportunity That would be a start down the path we need to take. https://www.abc.net.au//will-scott-morrison-adopt/12926426

14.01.2022 A few days ago this SMH article announced news of ambitious legislation to grow renewable energy, create jobs and support regional communities. Well, it’s passed! After a three days of debate broad support was achieved and NSW’s new Renewable Energy Plan will become law. This will open the door for NSW to become a Renewable Energy Superpower NSW's new Renewable Energy Plan will create more than 9000 new jobs, drive investment into the state and modernise our electricity system with clean, renewable energy. Plus, it will give NSW residents access to some of the cheapest power in the country and supercharge our economy for a faster, clean COVID recovery.

14.01.2022 For anyone that missed the online gathering this week, don't worry, all the recordings and everything you need to know about how to get involved are on the UE website -https://tinyurl.com/y2b9n7yj You can do everything from posting a selfie, to writing a letter, to starting you own small group action. Click on the link to read more or hear the presentation. Here is Rev Moni Taumoepeau sharing why acting on climate change is part of his mission and faith. https://www.youtube.com/watch t

14.01.2022 We're really excited to have Matt along to our upcoming Neighbourhood night. Sustainability is a complex topic and not all ethical funds are equal. In fact, some funds portray themselves as more ethical or sustainable than they really are-often called greenwashing. Matt is going to talk about how Uniting is putting it all into practice, including climate change investing, and give tips on what to look out for when evaluating your own funds, banks or super managers. Such a brainstrust to learn from, and we will leave all asking the right questions!

12.01.2022 "Created by the Gillard government in 2012, ARENA will run out of money by the end of the year without a fresh infusion of funds. The Morrison government has also recently overhauled ARENA's board prompting questions about whether it will continue to prioritise renewables." Find out why Uniting cares about this and supports the global day of action on September 25 here https://tinyurl.com/yyu6f5qt https://www.smh.com.au//new-power-source-for-nation-s-rene

12.01.2022 Even dispassionate academics are starting to get feisty on climate change. A group of 37 leading Universities has called on the leaders of wealthy countries, like Australia, to "heed expert advice" and "act with urgency" to decarbonise their economies and commit to net zero emissions. If we don't do that, they state, "we're really going to surrender the planet to the impacts of climate change...."

12.01.2022 Michelle Grattan succinctly states the climate policy challenge facing our Federal government (and the Federal Opposition) in this ABC article. Hopefully the federal ducks will sniff the wind (to mix metaphors) and line up straight with the others. That would be a start towards the needed changes.

11.01.2022 As part of the Synod Climate Action Strategy adopted in 2019, the NSW and ACT Synod is encouraging Uniting Church members, households and communities to take part in the Living the Change initiative. 11.01.2022 I passed this sign a couple of times this week on the way to Uniting's North Parramatta office and thought it definitely made it's point! Well done West Epping! #FundOurFutureNotGas #Uniting4Climate John Alexander #westeppinguniting

10.01.2022 Cleaning up old emails, I came across this video from April that couldn't be shared at a better time. From the local bowling club members rallying to sponsor solar panels for the club’s roof, to Newcastle City Council crowned one of the first local governments in the entire country to be powered by 100% renewable energy, this community shows that there is life beyond coal for Australian regional towns. Get involved in the #Fundourfuture not gas national day of action tomorrow!!! More info here: https://tinyurl.com/y2b9n7yj

10.01.2022 Looking forward to our online gathering starting in around 10 minutes to learn more and get ready for the September 25 #Fundourfuture not gas event! Register here and pop on!! Hear from Thea Ormerod, Reverend Moni, Chris Walker, Christian Students uniting and everyone else that joins from near and far ! https://tinyurl.com/yyy5bg77.

08.01.2022 The International Monetary Fund has called for a price on carbon "as the quickest way of reaching net zero emissions" (something our Prime Minister has said he wants). IMF boss Kristalina Georgieva was qouted as saying "To help save the planet we must work together to prevent a crisis turning into a catastrophe. A robust price on carbon can play a hugely important role." Bob Ward from the London School of Economic supports the idea, saying a carbon floor price provides greate...r certainty for business "and allows them to invest with greater confidence in technologies and processes to reduce emissions." So the economic experts say we must use tax AND technology to create a better future. Canberra, are you listenting? https://www.theguardian.com//high-greenhouse-gas-emitters-

04.01.2022 Have you thought about what it takes to get to net zero emissions? The changing climate has got a lot of us thinking more about how we can reduce waste and energy use around the home and as we go about our lives. How much do typical Australian households directly contribute to the country's CO2 emissions? We have a panel of speakers sharing some very innovative ideas and initiatives on sustainable diet, transport, community solar and ethical investing as part of Epping Uniting's Neighbourhood night @ 7:00 on Epping FB page. Speaker bios are here- https://www.unitingearth.org.au/
