13.01.2022 Black Lives Matter. The death of George Floyd is a devastating reminder of the brutal racism faced by Black and Indigenous peoples both in the United States and in Australia. 432 Indigenous Australians have died in police custody since 1991.... 0 Police officers have been convicted in relation to these deaths. 30 years after the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody, key recommendations have still not been implemented. 3 days ago, a NSW police officer violently assaulted an Indigenous teenager during an arrest, and he was defended by the NSW Police Commissioner. The oppression of Indigenous Australians began at invasion, and continues to this day. We need systemic change, and we stand in solidarity with everyone who is protesting against this injustice in Australia and around the world.
