23.01.2022 Do you identify as a culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) person? Do you have a story to share about how your cultural identity has shaped your relationship struggles (waddup Tinder fetishisation!), dating and more? If yes, we want to hear from you! We’re accepting written and non-written submissions to be featured on our new blog series: Unveiled Stories. The aim of Unveiled stories is to shed light onto interpersonal relationship experiences of CALD people, and spec...ifically how cultural identities shape those relationships. Topics can range from domestic violence, relationship struggles and more. For more information head to our website https://unveiledinstitute.org.au/unveiled-stories

22.01.2022 Police have issued an arrest warrant for the ex-boyfriend of Brazilian woman Cecilia Haddad, whose body was found floating in a Sydney river earlier this year. http://www.abc.net.au//cecilia-haddad-murder-case-/9914186

22.01.2022 Violence has far-reaching, yet invisible impacts. A strong response to domestic violence must recognise the many points along the way that policy must impact: from prevention, to responses within the relationship, to the aftermath. DV awareness has increased, yet policy has not gone along with it in terms of increasing accessibility to housing for vulnerable women. The SMH recently published a digestible article by Indira Naidoo about it. Check it out! https://www.smh.com.au//the-average-homeless-person-in-aus

21.01.2022 99% of female domestic violence survivors suffer from financial abuse. Commbank has recently put in a policy for customers who have been with them for 6+ months to access counsellors, and over $1000 in grants. Further, DV services know that financial abuse is a real problem for people in and leaving abusive relationships--they've got you covered with information and referrals. http://www.abc.net.au//domestic-violence-survivor/10135768

11.01.2022 So far today police in Australia would have dealt with on average 575 domestic violence matters according to the ABC. That's a horrifying number, but then you think of all the matters the police were not called to.

09.01.2022 Hello, new friends. Many of you are visiting us after Amne's talk at the Canberra: No to Racism and Islamophobia rally. We don't often post on our social media as we are currently deep in planning a piece of research on domestic violence as it impacts young, ethnically diverse women. To find out more, visit our website. We would love to hear your ideas!... https://unveiledinstitute.org.au/the-loo-project

06.01.2022 https://www.mamamia.com.au/verbal-harassment/ CW: verbal abuse and harassment "I did nothing. But I will never do nothing again." ... On International Women's Day, Hannah Ainsworth relives her experiences with verbal abuse and addresses the all too familiar predicament faced by women on busy nights out. Whether this story was written a few months ago or a few days ago, it is a stark reminder that women continue to face the outdated and pack like mentalities of female objectification. Let's not forget the power we have to challenge this behaviour! If you want to contribute a piece to the UI's blog, please contact us at [email protected]. We accept pieces on all topics relating to multiculturalism, social cohesion and the experiences of minorities.
