25.01.2022 I've just scouted out guyatt park and even though the ground is hard it's quite wet underfoot and the playgrounds are a mess and don't look very inviting for the kids. Current plan is to have this mornings carer's and terrors class in the gazebo if it's free to keep the kids clean.

20.01.2022 U plus Weekly challenge (#1) - Opposite hand week After working on asymmetrical strength imbalances with some clients over the last couple of weeks Ive decided to set the first U plus weekly challenge to be opposite hand week. The goal is to attempt to do as much as possible with your non dominant hand. ... If youre right handed, try brushing your teeth left handed, etc. Eat with your knife and fork in the wrong hands, I tried this at lunch and couldnt cut my bacon :( Post how you go #oppositehand #upluschallenge



20.01.2022 Ginger, cinnamon, cloves and honey - just like Christmas but in a healthy snack bar! I have always been a lover of snack bars - muesli bars, nut bars, protein bars. But many, even those marketed as healthy, are full of sugar, vegetable oil and additives. So lately Ive been experimenting with homemade versions. Over the last couple of weeks Ive been trying to produce a bar with a higher protein content that I can eat as an after exercise snack. 18.01.2022 U plus Fitness Weekly Challenge (#6) 1km Time Trial. So far it looks like Sam won the last challenge with a wall sit (modified from plank due to post-natal) of 3min 32sec, though theres still a couple of hours left to record a new score. Nice and easy one this week, just record your fastest 1km on foot.... You can walk, run, hop, skip, jump, or even crawl. You can do it on a treadmill, footpath, a running track, where ever you want. You can go out and run 1km or you can run 10km and just use the fastest 1km from that run. Comment below with your times. #upluschallenge

16.01.2022 Due to the warming weather and lack of shade in guyatt park at the time we are dropping the 3pm bootcamps. Its just getting too hot under our Aussie sun. If anyone has a preferred time for a replacement class let us know.

12.01.2022 U plus Fitness Challenge (#5) Plank! A nice easy one this week. Youve got the entire week to get your best plank time, no limit on how many attempts each day. Just to make things harder though well be doing them with our hands apart and palms flat on the floor like in the attached image.... Those who are unable to plank that still want to join in the challenge can do a wall sit with hips and knees at 90 degrees. Comment with your times as you progress through the week. #upluschallenge

11.01.2022 U plus Fitness Weekly Challenge (#3) Sit and Reach. Congrats Heidi McCarthy on winning challenge #2. After all the squats last week youre probably all feeling a bit stiff. So its a perfect time to do some stretching. The aim of this weeks challenge is to see how much you can improve your score on the sit and reach test over the week.... Some basic information on the test can be found at https://www.verywell.com/sit-and-reach-flexibility-test-312 As we dont all have a fancy box to perform the test correctly well just measure how far past our toes we can reach. My current score is 9cm. In order to improve your score youll need to stretch your calves, hamstrings and lower back throughout the week. But while youre at it you may as well stretch everything. According to http://www.sportsscience.co//how-often-and-how-long-shoul/ (slightly old, but how much can stretching change?) for best results we should be stretching each muscle group for 30s, once a day, at least 4 days a week. 11.01.2022 U plus Fitness weekly challenge (#2) - Squats Squats Squats This weeks challenge is to do at least 1000 body weight squats during the week. It doesnt matter how many you do at once, just keep count. It works out at just over 140 a day. Thats an easy 7 sets of 20 each day, which should take about 30 seconds per set. Thats only 3.5 minutes a day.... Post your progress and let me know when you hit 1000. #upluschallenge

Just count how many reps you do along the way and your score is the total rep count. The workout is... 90s Squats 90s Pushups 90s Situps (full, not crunches) 30s Burpees. 09.01.2022 So we all know we should re-fuel post exercise, but what should we eat? Sam has taken on the challenge of trying to invent snacks that meet your bodys recovery requirements, made of real foods that taste good and can be used as family snacks. And shes bringing them to our Tuesday Exercise with Kids Class for taste testing. Recent research suggests that the optimal ratio of protein to carbs in our post-exercise snack should be between 1:2 and 1:4, with 0.3 g of protein required for each kilogram of body weight. Its easy to grab a protein bar or whip up a quick protein shake. But most protein supplements are not appropriate for children, adolescents or during pregnancy, which makes it hard for parents. So come along to the Tuesday Exercise with Kids Class and try them, or make the recipes yourself, and let us know in the comments what you think.

Studies have shown that walking for at least 30min every day can have numerous benefits to your health.... 03.01.2022 U plus Fitness is back from holidays and PT and classes resume this week. First class of the week is Carers and Terrors tomorrow morning at 8:45am in Guyatt Park followed by Bootcamp (zuu) at 6am on Tuesday morning at St Lucia Playground.
