15.01.2022 We have some new additions to our ELC! Over the last couple of weeks, we have had a very generous and talented volunteer contribute their time to construct some amazing things for our ELC. He has built the children an amazing tool workbench with a roof, restored our art easel and built an amazing kitchen for inside with a blackboard on the back. The children have been absolutely ecstatic with these new additions and have been spending hours today at the tool bench building ...things and using their imagination. These items are not only an amazing addition to our centre but they have also sparked so much joy and created and extended on many different learning opportunities. The educators and children are immensely grateful for everything that this volunteer has done for us these past few weeks.

15.01.2022 It is so wonderful to see that the families and children within our ELC are loving the new addition of meals this year! The Children are often asking educators with excitement, what they will be eating for the day. Please see our 4 week rotational menu in the link below. We are currently on Week 3. https://www.ubcelc.org.au/our-menu

13.01.2022 Happy Early Childhood Educators Day to all our wonderful staff at the ELC

13.01.2022 The children have been enjoying engaging in imaginative play this week by pretending to go camping. Lucy, Jimmy, Angus and Spencer set up a campfire together using a red soft block that they had found. The children then gathered some food from the home corner including baked beans and eggs to cook on the fire. They then heated up hot chocolate on the fire and enjoyed some marshmallows together. "Time to go to sleep now, Irene can you turn off the lights", Angus said as th...ey all got into the tent. This experience allowed the children to share their ideas, strengthen their social skills and engage in imaginative play.

13.01.2022 This is officially the most awesome 2020 challenge weve seen! 1000 Hours Outside writes: Research has confirmed time and time again that what children are n...aturally and unabashedly drawn to, unrestricted outside #play, contributes extensively to every area of #childhood development. The importance here cannot be understated and yet we are losing much of childhood to screens, 1200 hours a year on average. Childhood is finite at just shy of 9.5 million minutes. We only get one shot at it. One of the biggest decisions we make is how we will use our time. The options are endless, many carry with them a lot of pressure. With so many opportunities vying for our attention one easy way to make sure #nature time doesnt get lost in the shuffle is simply to keep track of it. We track all sorts of important things: calories, finances, steps, etc. Its an easy way to visually see if we are providing this essential part of child #development to our kids. You can download their free 1000 Hours Outside in 2020 Tracking Sheet at https://1000hoursoutside.com//1000-hours-outside-2020-chal With amazing organisations such as this advocating for the rights of children to play in their natural environment, 2020 is in good hands. Never stop exploring! #neurochild #outdoors #natureplay #letthemplay #newyear #newyears2020

05.01.2022 We were lucky enough to have Tracey from BaleGrow visit us recently to run an incursion with the Children. This incursion involved Tracey teaching the Children about sustainable growing. Tracey built an instant straw bale garden with the children which we are now able to water and look after together. Tracey also did an interactive session with the children where she explained different sustainable practices in a way that the children were able to easily understand. This was such a fantastic incursion for our Centre and all of the Children seemed to really enjoy themselves and loved helping to build the straw bale garden. Feel free to come and have a look at it in our beautful outdoor area.

02.01.2022 Healthy Icy Poles - This morning the children had the opportunity to create their own healthy icy poles using a mixture of fresh fruit and a tiny bit of orange juice. The children placed the amount of fresh fruit that they wanted into their cup. We then added a small amount of orange juice and an icy pole stick and placed them in the freezer. The children and educators will be able to enjoy these together this afternoon when they are frozen. This was a wonderful group experience which promoted healthy eating and independence whilst also strengthening social skills, fine motor skills and hand eye coordination.
