15.01.2022 Skill Highlight from Acrobatic Arts- Most students want to achieve the Side Aerial. Students need to work the skill ladder to achieve this skill - which includes cartwheels, one handed cartwheels and flying cartwheels. The AcroDance Resource Center has a great Aerial Progression Sheet for students to work on! Elements of the Side Aerial: 1Arm Swing - The arms swing sharply downward to end in demi second behind the body. Watch the path of travel in the arms - sometimes stude...nts will torque the aerial by using the shoulders in a twist instead of a downward swing. 2Head Drop - the head should drop towards the knee to help begin the rotation of the aerial. 3Kick - the kick leg helps with the rotation by following the head drop, this kick should be quick. 4Power - the power leg should push off the floor, using the entire foot to supply the powerful push to get the body over the aerial. Things to watch for: Students are not pushing hard enough off the power leg. Twists in shoulders or hips (this can result in an over rotation in the landing.) Arms in front of the body or not being used at all. The arms are an integral part of the aerial! Loss of control in the recovery. Things can go sideways fast if students are not finishing this skill. Ensure they are safe by completing the skill in a controlled manner. #acrobaticarts #acrobaticartscertified #acro #acrotraining #skillhighlight #acrodance #aerial #upsidedownacs
