20.01.2022 Strawbale is one of our favourite building materials. It has amazing insulation properties (around 4 times more effective than a conventionally built brick veneer wall with R2.5 insulation batts), has a 'massiveness' and 'sturdiness' to it that conventional 'stick' builds lack (visually it is far more substantial than brick or stone), and it is made from a waste by-product from crop farming. #sustainabledesign #renewableresources #affordablebuilding #recycle

16.01.2022 Fascinating read. I wonder if, with this knowledge we'll be able to design a more connected society through our architecture. Will the echoes of modernism continue to reappear and provide social disconnection, or now that we have a century between us and it, would it be just another historical reference that connects us specifically to that time period? Or perhaps, given the archaic wiring of our brains, future architecture needs to more closely resemble buildings that made o...ur ancestors safe and comfortable. 12.01.2022 Interesting read published by ArchDaily, and we agree that there is a lot of air time dedicated to the topic of tiny houses at present. In time mainstream television and media will move on once the ratings show signs of a plateau or decline, but we believe the interest in downsizing, re-connecting with nature, and eliminating material superfluities will remain with many homemakers long after the waves of commercial fads have receded. The reality is that many occupants who are... taking up the challenge of downsizing to a tiny home have an innate desire to do so. Whether the tiny home in its current form is able to achieve that is another story, and as with all architectural typologies it will morph through time as its inadequacies are ironed out, and stories are heard of both success and failure. As our planet heads towards a population and resource limit, accomodating people in smaller spaces using less resources will become an increasing priority, and the tiny house movement (as opposed to trend), has established a great launching pad to develop a bigger and better small-scale residential typology.
