20.01.2022 It is World Teachers Day Today. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at this fantastic school and commend the hard work they do here every day. Together we build futures. Teachers have shaped the future by instilling change in their students.... They strive to go above and beyond to create the dynamic learning activities for other people’s children. They give up their own time for other people’s children. They care about the wellbeing and health of other people’s children. They sometimes go without a break to eat or go to the toilet because they responsible for the care of other people’s children. They provide a safe and nurturing environment for other people’s children. They are there to help and provide life skills for other people’s children. They excite, engage and create a sense of lifelong learning for other people’s children. And they do it all with a smile. Teachers don't do this alone and that’s why this can only happen as a team with our EAs, our admin staff, our cleaners and gardeners. Igniting a fire in them to question the world and seek answers. To provide them with ideas and ways to look at the world around them. Happy World Teachers day to all of our staff here at Useless Loop Primary School.

18.01.2022 Useless Loop PS is becoming a Waste Wise Accredited School! Waste Minimisation Reduction Policy Like all schools, Useless Loop PS can produce large amounts of waste. We found the bulk of our waste came from organic and food sources. This is a big waste of organic resources that we could be re-using in sustainable ways to close the loop on organic recycling. ... At Useless Loop PS, we, as a remote community, will be using a different approach to tackle this problem. Being a remote community where resources are scarce, it is important to model and educate that we cannot be frivolous with things. Sustainability is a corner stone of our community. It is the aim of our school to send as little waste as possible to landfill. This will lead to financial savings for the school, considerable benefits for the environment and many opportunities for students to learn environmentally-sound attitudes and habits. The school is committed to a whole-school approach to environmental education, of which waste minimisation and litter reduction plays a vital role. It will be the policy of this school that The strategies of rethink, reduce, reuse and recycle will be incorporated in everyday activities. Our curriculum will reflect our commitment to fostering ecologically-sound thinking. Waste minimisation and litter reduction will be included in the relevant areas of study. Recycled products and others that help reduce waste will be purchased where possible Rethink Reduce Reuse Recycle The Four R’s! We would love it if you would like to become involved in helping us reduce waste going to landfill and help us to promote our sustainable ideology! For more information please contact [email protected]

18.01.2022 Dear parents, We hope you have had an enjoyable break with your children and have spent some quality time with your family. Just a reminder that primary students start on Monday the 1st of February at 8:15. Kindy students start on the Tuesday the 2nd.... This Thursday and Friday is a School Development Day for the staff. I would also like to introduce our two new teaching staff, Miss Ebony Scouler, who will be our early years teacher, and Mrs Peta Harkin, who will be our senior primary teacher. They will be arriving in town today so please make them feel welcome when you see them. We will endeavour to keep student drop offs at the gate this term with the exception of Kindy students, as it was great to see how capable the students were at getting themselves ready in the morning and get straight into the working morning. We are looking forward to seeing all of our students on Monday morning and hearing of their holiday adventures!

15.01.2022 Dear parents, We will be cooking kangaroo stew and damper on Friday after lunch as the final part of our NAIDOC Week activities. A big thank you to Garrick and Sandy for all their support and to Mr Armstrong for organising. In the interest of minimising waste from our school we are requesting that each student brings their own bowl and spoon to school on that day.... Students will then wash the bowls in the wash up buckets provided before bringing them back home. Remember, parents are more than welcome to come into the school on Friday afternoon from 1.15pm onwards and spend some time with their children and have a look at the all the activities that have been done over the week. Kindy students are welcome to come as well, although it is not officially a Kindy day. Please come down to school the school, have a look around at what the students have been making, try some stew, have a cuppa and maybe try your hand at a few traditional games and some yarn bombing or dot painting that the students will be playing in the afternoon as well. Thank you in advance!

12.01.2022 Today is National Sorry Day. It is a day where all government buildings are to fly the Aboriginal flag.It precedes National Reconcilation Week which runs from the 27th May to 3 June each year. These dates commerate two significant milestones in the Reconciliation journey. The 1967 Referendum and the High Court decision in Mabo. Reconcilation Week is a time for us to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to r...econciliation in our work place, schools and communities. At Useless Loop PS we are proud to include Aboriginal culture in as many activities throughout the year as we can. We are proud to fly our flags, and what they represent, everyday. And we are proud of the contributions of our Aboriginal community - past, present and emerging.
