18.01.2022 Congratulations to Ross Fargher of Nilpena Station, for winning the prestigious international Strimple Award. The award is given to amateur or avocational palaeontologists who have furthered the field of palaeontology. Ross discovered Ediacaran fossils on his property in the early 1980s, and since then scientists and fossil enthusiasts from all over the world have been coming out to see them. The fossils are so significant they have changed the measures for geological time ...and life on Earth. In 2004, a new international geological period, the 88-million-year Ediacaran Period was named after the fossil site. The Ediacaran fossils are a very special thing to have right on our doorstep, and help bring visitors to Leigh Creek every year.
