22.01.2022 Well that wraps up yet another great year spent in Nerang. Some of you may or may not agree . It was great to see you all accomplish something wether you finished your event or not, you no doubt took something away. Congratulations to those who did finish their events. Incredible stuff. We can't wait for next year with plans to make it bigger and better than ever. A big shout out to each and every one of you who took on the 500kms, it was a tough run with some of you battlin...g injuries from the start but you still managed to push on as far as you could. I'm sure that those of you who did have to withdraw from the race will no doubt come back for redemption in 2020. And we hope you do. Please if you have any photos you would like to share, please post them to our page for all to see . Congratulations and thank you again to everyone for making this event what it was. We can't wait to see you all next year.

22.01.2022 Also entering #WEUTGC500km Is 52 year old Guy Roberts. Guy has tackled the Alpine Challange 100miles, MS2S 100km and the Comrades 90km. All the best Guy, see you Tuesday.

22.01.2022 MONDAY - The calm before the storm. Runners, Get a good rest. Starting tomorrow it will be the only rest you will get for a week. If your not excited or nervous to be entering the pain cave - this race isn't for you . See you all later for the 5pm Brief.

21.01.2022 The origin of the 500km came about in 2018 when Sam Weir crossed the finish line after a gruelling 200 mile and walked straight up to my father (Ian Cornelius) and suggested that he stage an even bigger event that will completely crush your soul into a million pieces. It was right there and then the 500km was born. The following year in 2019, the 500 was underway. And again, as Sam crossed the finish line, he straight away suggested we hold a 1000km race. True story. Sam’s r...esume speaks for itself. He is well known for being a sucker for punishment without a single complaint. We look forward to having you toe the start line again Sam for what will be another fun yet gruelling event. Wild Earth

21.01.2022 I ran, laughed, cringed and bit my lip. Ground down my teeth with a millimetre here and a millimetre there. I mumbled words, tripped over my own legs, kicked a ...few rocks, sticks and zig zagged my way down the out and back. I swore, maybe twice... maybe more. I saw a spotted cow that was really a burnt out tree stump. Something galloped behind me leaving a dust cloud amongst the torch light as I turned around. I saw a kangaroo the size of a tree, watched a Bilby scurry across the trail, a red belly black and a python blocking my way. I slipped, fell, got injured more than I care to remember. In moments I forgot to dig deep but when I did 'gees I dug so deep I couldn't get out'. Got sunburnt, rained on, felt the cool breeze in an appreciative moment of gratefulness... having the opportunity to feel the rawness of running stupid distances whilst laughing at the fact that I actually chose to do this. Having the opportunity to run with one of my best mates whilst watching him suffer in the back end of his loops. Hacked my way up 14,000m of elevation - no biggie. Ate a lot of burgers and donuts filling up the tank, finishing my race on Empty. I hijacked other support crews and made new mates secretly trying to find out Todd Hazelgrove running secrets. Fell asleep on the trail then went the wrong way when we woke up. I was challenged both mentally and physically. I got what I needed out of this race and I gave what was needed to see the distance I saw. I didn't leave with 500 but 350 was all I could afford leaving nothing left in my pocket. I felt human, gained strength, grew a little and left with a PB. I gave blood and sweat whilst receiving loose toe nails as trophies. Because nothing says 'you ran a bit of distance' like 10 loose toe nails. And nothing says 'you gave everything you had' like a few tears. A big thank you to everyone who made this week what it was, I will personally message and thank you all over the next couple days. What a fun few days. Wild Earth Wild Earth Ultra Trail Gold Coast

10.01.2022 Also entering the #weutgc500km is former Gold Coast resident John Cantor. Although John is not an ultra runner, he is however no stranger to distance having set a speed record across the Brooks Range in his 1,600km solo traverse of the Alaskan Arctic in 2012. Last year he competed in the Alaska Mountain Wilderness Ski Classic, although no one completed the race that year due to avalanches, deep snow, temperatures down to minus 35 and the 320km distance." Welcome John.

09.01.2022 Next into the #weutgc500km is Thomas Billett of Werribee in Victoria. Thomas attempted the 200 miler last year but failed to finish after completing about 150 miles. 08.01.2022 Good morning everyone. We hope you are all safe and well in this time. Just a quick message to let you all know that we are looking at all the information the government is providing surrounding COVID-19 and in good time we will adjust accordingly. At this stage we are still planning to go ahead with all events but will continue to monitor the situation and will make a call early August as to wether we will proceed or not. ... We are looking at possibly opening registrations in the next week or two as we know there are a few keen beans wanting to lock something in. (Please note that with uncertain times ahead and not knowing what will happen in the coming months we may be forced to reschedule the event) Thank you for your support and we hope to bring you a great event. Fingers crossed everyone. In the meantime - stay safe, look after one another and hope to see you all at the start line.

07.01.2022 Good morning Athletes, It is with great sadness and regret that we inform you that we have made the tough decision to cancel this years Wild Earth Ultra Trail Gold Coast 500. Along with all the other smaller events. This was a decision that was not made lightly. Unfortunately we are unable to attain the right permit to hold this event whilst events cap off on 100 people. We unfortunately exceed the 100 people across all events including support crews. Also due to QLD strict p...olicy on the closer of our border this would also mean that athletes that want to do the event will not be able to toe the start line. This years event going off the interest that we have received would have been the biggest event to date with a record number of athletes wanting to attend the event. We were hopeful this years event would have gone ahead with not many hiccups. Unfortunately this has proven to not be the case. Also, with respect to other events being postponed towards the back end of the year, we decided not to postpone to a later date rather just cancel and look forward to 2021. We apologise for the inconvenience and we will be in touch in regards to a refund for those that have laid out costs. We hope that you can understand and that we see you in 2021. Thank you.

06.01.2022 So who is going to rise to the challenge this year? Last year we only had 5 finishes in the 500km. Some coming close but fell short. Definitely going to be an exciting race to watch this year with some returning for redemption. Tag someone you think should enter.

06.01.2022 I've put together a little video if anybody is interested in checking it out. You'll have to excuse my fat head, I had limited footage. Unfortunately wasn't able to capture much footage of other runners. Hopefully next time!

04.01.2022 Good evening all!!! Just a FYI for those that have enquired on all social media fronts. Yes, the website is currently down at the moment as we are changing servers over but sit tight and we will have website up and running again soon. Also, just a COVID update: For those training up for the 500km event - Everything is looking positive for this to go ahead at this stage so keep training. It’s a tough race so make sure you are prepared. Along with all the other smaller events.... There is always a possibility that this could all change as we don’t really know what is going to happen next month or the months after but I can tell you for those asking, the event is on at this stage. Happy training.

02.01.2022 Event Announcement Coming Soon.

02.01.2022 Hi guys. Just a bit of a wrap up of my 500km race at Nerang. This should be the last, I promise. So on Tuesday morning 12 crazy runners (out of 15 entered) sta...rted a 500km trail race running 25km loops of the Nerang Forest. The race nearly didn't go ahead after the passing of event organiser Ian Cornelius 7 weeks ago. Thanks to Steve Cornelius for taking over and still putting on this crazy race. If anyone who doesn't know the Nerang course is a brutal course with around 900m of elevation gain and loaded with rocks. My 1st 3 days started with 5 laps (125km), 4 laps (100km) and 4 laps (100km) all with 3 hrs of sleep. Todd Hazelgrove, Sam Weir and Keirun Douglass set the early pace with myself, Karen Barrett, Lucas, Amy, Anne, Natalie, John, Thomas and Nick following. After 6 laps (150km) I was in 3rd place and that's where I stayed. I was unable to catch Todd and Sam but my original race plan was just to finish but my competitive instincts kicked in and I found myself having a massive battle with Karen Barrett trying to hold onto 3rd place. Wow! She is one tough women who was still on my tail. I said to myself (if you want 3rd place Karen you're going to have to work for it). With 7 laps (175km) remaining I decided to go into attack mode. I put in a big day starting at 3:50am completed 5 laps (125km), then had 1hr sleep and finished the last 2 laps (50km). When I woke from 1hrs sleep I had my lowest moment when it seemed like my body wouldn't function. With blister upon blister by this stage I I managed to drop Karen and pushed hard blocking out any pain to finish at 12:27pm on Saturday finishing in 3rd place with an overall time of 102hrs 27mins and 45secs. Special thanks must go to Shane Kennedy who not only acted as head crew chief and media manager but also ran 2laps 50km as a pacer. My other crew members also did a fantastic job looking after me. My beautiful wife Jenny, Andrea, Tracey, Mark, Naomi and Jan all played a part in keeping me going. Pacers included Jamie, Shane and Alex Davies. I have to say that I've have an absolute ball doing this event and I'm totally blown away from the support of my wonderful friends (on Facebook and dropping in to see me finish a lap etc). I've made new friends with a bunch of crazy trail runners as well. I've set myself a goal and achieved it. I'm on a huge high at the moment and it's still taking time to sink in what I have achieved. I hope that I have inspired some people to have a crack at anything that they want to achieve. See more

02.01.2022 FYI - All events will be available for those that want to tackle the 4x25k relay, 25km 50km 100km 175km 325km or the brutal 500km.

01.01.2022 Good evening everyone, What crazy times we are living in at the moment. Our thoughts go out to everyone affected by this virus. Let’s please band together and get out and support our local small business as best as we can. Firstly - I would just like to apologise to those who have sent messages via Instagram and have not yet been received a reply. There has been an abundance of messages come through over the last few weeks with numerous questions regarding the event this yea...r. Unfortunately, until we speak with our fearless leader (Stephen) you may just have to sit tight until we are able to get back to you with a response. (Please in future if you require direct information- please email or message this page directly). For the time being though, with the event still 6 months away, it is still currently going ahead as planned and hopefully doesn’t fall victim to the virus. So keep your training up and stay motivated. Especially those who plan to tackle the 500kms. One of the questions that has frequently been asked over this last week is ‘I am looking at entering the 500 this year however, I have only ever done 50km & 100km races’. The answer is yes that is okay - however, if you have/or have had health issues in the past/ current medical conditions etc - we ask that you get a medical certificate to show you are fit to undertake such a tough race. Stay safe everyone and hopefully we can ride this out so we can get back to living our best lives. Team WEUTGC.
