05.01.2022 Where in the world are our grads? Freelance Photographer and Videographer Matthew Loucas [BCom '17] lives in Canada, but is currently back in Australia. It took 6-months in the digital marketing world before Matt realised his... talents would be better suited in a more creative capacity; "I took part in UWA’s international exchange program, and I can proudly say this was the most significant influence in shaping who I am as a professional today. It not only introduced me to the art of Photography, it humbly gave me lifetime friends whom which I still see regularly now and lifelong lessons which I apply to both my business and personal life." The most interesting aspect of his career is the ever-changing dynamics of online media, remote-work and independent publications; "I’m always striving to make my work as independent as possible, and therefore hold a deep appreciation for the freelancer’s who not only establish a successful business surrounding their craft but do so without compromising their art or personal style. Building a brand is hard, but I feel with the revolution of social media and the new dynamics of e-commerce, there has never been a more exciting time for growing a freelance brand."

02.01.2022 Where in the world are our grads? Shawn Soh [BCom '10] is currently the Head of Community Relations with Filos Community Services, a Singapore registered charity. Since his career transition more than 8 years ago into the non-profit sector, Shawn has had stints working with the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) in Singapore and the disability and health sectors and was tasked to helm various portfolios before finding his niche in volunteer management. ... "My passion ties in very nicely with what I do professionally and my life’s purpose, which is to uplift the vulnerable groups of individuals and help build a resilient community." Knowing that understanding the non-profit sector is insufficient to have an overview of the giving space in Singapore, Shawn’s previous role was the Social Impact Program Manager at LinkedIn. In this capacity, he fully appreciates the work of a purpose driven organisation and the utmost importance of strategic alignment between the organisation’s goals and the impact of its community building efforts, and preaches sustainable giving. His notable contribution to the sector is for piloting the Volunteer Experiential Programme which provides a diverse range of volunteer activities for public servants to volunteer with given a timeframe for completion. Shawn is also an active volunteer with the grassroots and other non-profit organisations. He preaches Asset Based Community Development, a topic that is very close to his heart and is an advocate of recruiting talents from diverse sectors, into the social sector.
