Update about AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine The Australian Technical Advisory group on Immunisation (ATAGI) has updated their advice about the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. ATAGI now recommend the Pfizer vaccine be given to people under the age of 60. This means South Australians who are aged 16 to 59 years and eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine will receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. If you are 50-59 and you are already booked in for your vaccine at an SA Health COVID-19 vaccination clinic, please keep your appointment and you will be given the vaccine recommended for you. If you’re 50-59 and you’re booked in for your first COVID-19 vaccine dose at your doctor’s office, you will need to cancel that appointment and reschedule it at an SA Health Pfizer vaccination site instead. People who have had a first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine and did not experience any serious side effects can keep their booking for their second AstraZeneca dose. This includes adults under 60 years of age. There is a high demand for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at the moment. Please be patient as we work through this change and make more appointments available. Throughout July, more Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines will become available.
