10.01.2022 Upon hearing of the loss of another young life through suicide, Tony Lovett was asked for a copy of his version of the Bart Wiloughby written song, Message for Young and Old. A young fella (15) took his own life one Friday night and whenever we (the community) lose someone younger these days, this is the song I think of. So in July 2020, Tony Lovett called on musicians and friends Lyndon Kriss, Deb Clark, Elizabeth Hardiman, Vincent Emmanuel, Nikki Foy and Peter Lovett to ...help record a new version of Message for Young and Old. Jarrod Hall from Ginkgo Productions was given the task of capturing the story and the messages from young people and producing a video clip, all within a tight timeframe and small budget. Suicide is the leading cause of death among Australians aged between 15 and 44. It deeply affects friends, families and communities. More than 3000 Australians end their lives each year this is about 8 people a day. The suicide rate among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people was approximately twice that of non-Indigenous Australians. Suicide rates for males and females differ considerably with males consistently accounting for approximately three-quarters of suicide deaths. Most people these days have been touched personally by suicide. Through this project, we wanted to take the opportunity to check in with our young people and to give them a platform to talk about this in a safe space. Through community conversations, our mob developed key messages. You are not alone Your feelings are valid You are loved Talk to someone who will listen Talk to your mob You dont have to cope alone Our young people said they need a voice; they need their feelings acknowledged and validated. Their message is that you are not alone. Our message is there is always help. Here is our Message, for young and old! Clip features: Anthony Lovett Aaliyah Cooper Jaya Foy Jaspa Foy Elias Jarvis Tarni Jarvis Jaidah Lowe Elleischa Sizer Tia Sizer Chloe Sizer Deb Clark Elizabeth Hardiman Nikki Foy Peter Lovett Vincent Emmanuel Tony Lovett The Fighting Gunditjmara and Koondoom Yarkeen dance group Special thanks to Indy @ the Minority Co. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_ZXK0e0DVE
