18.01.2022 Aunty Mary Atkinson Scholarship Reminder Applications are still open for the Aunty Mary Atkinson Scholarship! The Aunty Mary Atkinson Scholarship Program is offered by VAEAI in partnership with the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions and will assist Victorian Aboriginal students by investing in their academic development and providing financial support to undertake full-time study in a broad range of fields related to the portfolio areas of DJPR. Through the partners...hip VAEAI and DJPR will award up to eight scholarships at any one time of $30,000 annually for up to four years to support both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Successful scholarship recipients will receive their scholarship as a fortnightly allowance over the year from VAEAI. 15.01.2022 Did you know? Our Koorie Outreach Support Program is statewide. This means that Aboriginal students at all study levels, anywhere in the state can engage an Outreach Facilitator. The Koorie Outreach Support Program assists with connecting Koorie learners and their families to the supports needed to achieve active and positive engagement in learning after transitioning back to classrooms. If you are a Koorie learner or know one who is struggling with re-engagement or needing education support, call and have a yarn to an Outreach Facilitator on 1800 VAEAI 1 (1800 823 241). Outreach Facilitators are available for Koorie learners of all ages and all education levels and can connect you to a range of supports in your area. This number is also available for workers and community members who would like more information about the program.

13.01.2022 Monash are currently accepting applications for the Master of Indigenous Business Leadership Program. The William Cooper Institute and Monash Business School jointly offer a new Master of Indigenous Business Leadership a transformational leadership program for Indigenous Australians designed to strengthen Australia’s Indigenous workforce in public, private and community sectors. The Master of Indigenous Business Leadership is a cross-disciplinary program with leading units delivered by Monash Business School, complemented by a tailored offering in design thinking, together with mastery units from Law and Public Policy. 12.01.2022 On the 13th of October the Victorian State Government announced a $250 million dollar package to assist students to catch up on their studies. More than 4,100 tutors will be deployed across Victorian schools in 2021 to ensure no student is left behind in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The $250 million package is the single biggest boost to individual learning support in Victoria’s history, and will make sure any student who may have fallen behind or become disengaged gets the help they deserve. The package will support more than 200,000 students across the state. These tutors will be available for Aboriginal students in 2021 to ensure they are able to succeed at school. 10.01.2022 VAEAI would like to wish everyone a Happy NAIDOC Week for 2020. We’re celebrating a little later than usual this year with NAIDOC week starting today on the 8th and ending on the 15th, due to the pandemic. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The theme this year is Always Was, Always ...Will Be, recognising that that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. Whilst we are still under restrictions in Victoria, there are still plenty of opportunities to celebrate. 10.01.2022 The closing date for Marrung Education Scholarship applications has been extended. Marrung education scholarships support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students to complete years 11 and 12. There are 20 scholarships of $5,000 each ($2,500 per year over two years). The scholarships recognise students who demonstrate a high potential to succeed in their chosen pathway. Who can apply? Marrung education scholarships are for students who are: Aboriginal and/or Torre...s Strait Islander completing year 10 at a Victorian government school planning on completing year 11 and 12 at a Victorian government school. 10.01.2022 The Koorie Academy of Excellence has collaborated with Whittlesea/Banyule Tech Schools and Aboriginal artist, Emma Bamblett to launch the KAE Virtual Indigenous Art Exhibition. This exhibition showcases the artworks created by students throughout the recent KAE Virtual Indigenous Holiday Program, which was held over three days during the September/October school break. Over twenty KAE members shared in knowledge about art, culture, our stories, land and history, whilst discovering their inner artist and gaining digital design skills. 03.01.2022 Submissions are now open for VAEAI’s Year 12 Yearbook! If you’re an Aboriginal student graduating year 12 in 2020 you can submit to be a part of our Year 12 Yearbook. The Yearbook commemorates your achievement as a young Aboriginal student alongside your peers and celebrates your dedication to your studies. Finishing year 12 is a challenge in any year, but the graduating class of 2020 has had to overcome the challenges of a pandemic alongside their studies, and we want to recognise the Koorie students who have persisted despite these obstacles.
