20.01.2022 Not many days left; actually just two: Today and tomorrow are the final days to fill out your voting forms - if you are thinking of mailing them back, as per https://www.smashedav.com.au/our-news/councilelections Written and authorised by Valdis Dunis, 33 LeFevre Terrace, North Adelaide SA 5006.

18.01.2022 Today they are counting North Ward 1s ...

16.01.2022 ... and the counting counts on - with a zillion scrutineers checking

16.01.2022 Walking home through the Art Gallery, these two exhibits seem relevant to the counting of votes: in the beginning an almost infinite and confusing combination of ways the threads of votes - and more crucially people’s preferences - can flow will ... in a couple of days knit together to create something understandable and usable.

15.01.2022 Thank you "Help save South Australia's history from demolition" for acknowledging me as the recommended North Ward Councillor for my work to save 306 Ward Street and more broadly reverse the draconian new "Rau's Rules" stripping us local residents and businesses - and even City Council - from having any say what the 11 large hospitals, colleges and religious institutions in North Adelaide can buy, demolish and build. My work so far has included: * setting up Friends & Reside...nts of North Adelaide to create a fresh new community force * holding many meetings with Ministers in State Government and City Council, National Trust, Calvary, etc to highlight the strong community anger at the "Rau's Rules" * getting over 500 and 300 petition signatures online and offline working to scrap "Rau's Rules" * collectively as a team for now we have halted the destruction of 306 Ward Street * secured a promised alteration of the Rau Rules by Minister Knoll's team (not yet executed though) However, 306 Ward and 155 other properties are still at risk of demolition unles we can secure the scrapping of Rau's Rules - see Advertiser article link below about Martin Haese's and our efforts below for more details of the properties under risk, next steps, etc. Hopefully getting a higher profile platform being elected as a North Ward Councillor can allow me to fight harder to save the North Adelaide as we know and love it. 13.01.2022 Nice one Matt Osborn :) Written and authorised by Valdis Dunis, 33 LeFevre Terrace, North Adelaide SA 5006.

12.01.2022 I think my passion to protect the beauty of North Adelaide - including our built structures - and my work to scrap "Rau's Rules" and bring back decision making about what is demolished and built around us to us local residents, businesses and Council are well known. Heritage Watch asked me about these issues and my answers are below: http://www.heritagewatch.net.au/surveys/valdis-dunis-2018/ Written and authorised by Valdis Dunis, 33 LeFevre Terrace, North Adelaide SA 5006.

12.01.2022 First Scotland, then Wales and now the UK. And meanwhile back in Australia some politicians can only talk about the costs even though for every other emergency and war, they spend money as if it’s free ...

10.01.2022 Approximately 7 tennis courts-worth of our Adelaide park lands are being lost to commercial development each year is a shocking statistic to me, and one of the reasons I joined the Adelaide Park Lands Preservation Assoc - APPA) and proud to be on the management committee of it. Personally I live in front of the one park lands (Park 6), but more broadly we need a strong community response to resist the many times that governments and others take the easy and cheaper path to go...bble up another plot of 'free' land in the park lands instead of buying and redeveloping the many underused (and at times derelict) blocks of land we have in the CBD. I agree with APPA's leader Shane Sody who says a review of the Park Lands Act would be ideally carried out by an independent and nonpartisan organisation such as the SA Heritage Council or National Trust. The park lands are as much a part of our heritage as any building, and need the same kind of care to prevent their destruction for short term gain - whether helipads, pubs in the parks or whatever enterprises are proposed next to be built over them. Well done APPA to stand up for our park lands, but we need more passionate and active members - if you haven't done it, you are welcome to join and help us keep our park lands wonderful. https://indaily.com.au//call-to-review-failing-park-lands/ Written and authorised by Valdis Dunis, 33 LeFevre Terrace, North Adelaide SA 5006.

07.01.2022 Nothing more I can add to Rob Simm's comments: Written and authorised by Valdis Dunis, 33 LeFevre Terrace, North Adelaide SA 5006.

05.01.2022 Voting & Councils: some comedy and some insights are timeless and priceless ... :) Written and authorised by Valdis Dunis, 33 LeFevre Terrace, North Adelaide SA 5006.

04.01.2022 First results in for the City of Adelaide, and congratulations to Sandy Verschoor to win the Lord Mayor role for our city. Ever onwards and upwards for Carbon Neutral Adelaide and other initiatives that are at my core - that she supported - and following on from Martin Haese's inspiring and fruitful roadmap that motivated me to stand to try to progress his goals along further and faster. Tonight they are still hoping to decide on the Area Councillors, and then tomorrow mornin...g 9am they start looking at my North Ward - 1st preferences only counted by hand and then the 2nds, 3rds, 4ths, etc done by computer after that given we have so many (8) contesting the two vacancies in the North Ward. We might hear the results for North on Sunday or Monday. Careful and thorough democracy in action is a pleasure to behold. 04.01.2022 What an interesting list of what we each of us could do to make our communities better, including "eye bombing" and "chairbombing". Thanks Trevor White for sharing. Trevor is super active improving his community around St Kilda, but also helps out here in North Adelaide. Some ideas may only work in USA, but their final 3 sure do apply here too: 99. Think bigger. "I think the best small thing we can do for our neighborhoods is educate ourselves on the kind of huge changes Am...erican cities need to pursue to build their way out of the terrible housing crises most prosperous cities face, divest themselves of auto-dependent infrastructure, improve access to education and job re-training, ruggedize themselves for a changing climate and drop their greenhouse gas emissions to zero in the next couple decades. Almost everything else is window dressing." Alex Steffen, writer, speaker, planetary futurist, The Heroic Future 100. Throw an amazing block party. Don’t forget the ice cream. 101. Vote. 04.01.2022 Looks like this cartoon from years back in USA also this time applies to the Adelaide City Council elections. Two more days left, but looks like it will settle at around a third for North Ward voters voting. https://ecsa.sa.gov.au//council-elections-ho/daily-returns ...
