24.01.2022 Had a go at making Aunty Daphnes famous sponge cake from our family cookbook that I was proof reading recently. I was excited with the result, as there has been some hype & mystery around its difficulty. My spin was to put a layer of passionfruit & lime curd I made last week, in the middle with fresh cream. 13.01.2022 Ive been working on a new soap class that focuses on using foods in soap. Apart from using natural plant oils such as coconut and olive that form the basis of many handmade soaps, many soapers (such as myself) become curious about what else they can put in their soaps. A lot of great ideas dont work out well in soap. These soaps have coconut cream, goats milk, banana and honey. Ill teach you how to successfully incorporate foods and different liquids into soap. 11.01.2022 Kicked off the Easter weekend by baking cinnamon buns. Im not an experienced bread maker and that showed in the somewhat heavy bread (I felt the dough was too dense from the beginning). However the gooey caramel sauce, rich in butter, brown sugar and creamed local honey was a real winner!

06.01.2022 In todays soap class we experimented with soap nuts! One of our class members had boiled up some soap nuts and brought the resultant water, which was a honeyish colour. I used it my demo soap as part of the water component. I will be impatiently waiting for the cure time to pass so I can try it out. Soap nuts are often used as a natural alternative for laundry soap. I had not thought to use it in a soap. I love how my classes introduce me to many diverse people and ideas......a teacher is always learning!
