25.01.2022 Another thing that people might not be aware of with these aftermarket front panels is the wiper spindle holes are sometimes on the wrong side as they are stamped for left hand drive. So we have to cut out the raised section and weld it into the correct position. We then fold up a new piece to patch the cut out. This is tacked in with the mig and finished with the Tig. Whatever gets it done!

25.01.2022 Time to finish the doors

22.01.2022 Chillis panels have arrived and Andrew thinks its Christmas Straight into the quarter repairs. We have to modify a few things to marry up the new early low light repair panels, nothing we can't handle

22.01.2022 Day 1 of learning complete, time for some relaxing

22.01.2022 I had a few things to do in Toowoomba this afternoon but Andrew kept up the progress on Chillis rust repairs. Rear side panel tacked into place ready for tigging. The inner supports were straightened, modified for earlier guard and fully rust treated first though. The first lower window section also cut out, treated and tacked in. Bloody good job son

22.01.2022 Dusty is really shining now

21.01.2022 Jades engine bay has been redone in the correct colour. All painting finished!

21.01.2022 Join me for the first of four coats of debeer beromix.

20.01.2022 Crazy busy times here at VZR Jades panels are now finished and we can now bolt them up and send it down the road. Well, once we redo the engine bay due to a different brand basecoat being used and the colour looking different. The customer supplied the paint and its sometimes the way it is.... At least 90% of the car is done in my usual valspar/debeer so I know it will be all good The underfloor repair sections have been welded into place on Dusty and the gutters have been stripped to clean up any surface rust under the paint. This is done with a narrow but rigid wire wheel attached to a grinder. Unfortunately we have found a few small holes in the side of the roof At least its a quick and easy repair so we can get him painted and put back together.

20.01.2022 Hey there Dusty, you're looking less rusty!

19.01.2022 One side tacked in !!

17.01.2022 Long time no see pilgrims

16.01.2022 Whew......what an awesome weekend! 6 amazing women who were really keen to learn more about their kombis kept me on my toes ! I'm not a qualified teacher or mechanic but there is great satisfaction passing on what you have learnt yourself over decades of vw ownership and empowering these ladies to understand their beloved buses a bit more. ... Although we almost hit 40c today, we still covered so much and managed to get a couple of kombis running well again and I'm sure after this weekend the owners will have the confidence to at least dive in to that engine bay and possibly fix something simple themselves. It was definitely a family effort to pull off the whole show but it was absolutely worth the effort Big thanks to Linda, Greta, Andrew and behind the scenes Casey for all the help. I personally can't wait for the next one!

16.01.2022 Ok then Ava (which should have been Eva) its time to go home.

16.01.2022 Ok.......the front's just sitting there for effect but you can get the idea of how good it will look when fully assembled.

16.01.2022 Stage 1 of Eclectics custom paintjob is up! Should have the rest finished in the next couple of days https://youtu.be/1RG8HGyyn48

16.01.2022 Hoping this is the last of dustys previous poor repairs

15.01.2022 What a Wednesday! Fitted Eclectics roof vents after they had been painted so there will be plenty of fresh air in the cabin. We found the issue with the sliding door and you'd be surprised how much difference a strategically placed washer makes. It creates an angle on the lower arm that makes it roll much easier. You could almost say we're getting good at it !... Eclectic is getting picked up tomorrow for its next stage of rebuild. A big day getting dusty back together and a few mods as well. New front door cards have been supplied by owner as the old ones were water damaged and had oversized 6x9 speakers hanging in there. New smaller speakers have been supplied and it was a case of carefully cutting the hole in a good place and make some support brackets to hold the speaker as its not ideal to just screw them into the panel. Front bumper was inspected before fitment and was found to be very rusty on the inside. This was scraped/wire wheeled/ rust converted/zinc primed before fitting. Another thing supplied by the owner was some atlas whitewall inserts. These were fitted last week to the healthy light truck tyres that were already on the bus. I then had to manipulate them to sit nicely in place by deflating the tyre and using a white rubber mallet beating them flush before reinflating. They were then taken to a tyre specialist in Toowoomba who are known to be the best, they got them balanced using weights on the inside of the rim which is the only way with these inserts. So now these old wheels have a new look, especially after spending some time on polishing the chrome rings and centre caps. New chrome mirrors are also being fitted to add a bit of bling. More installing tomorrow!

14.01.2022 Woot woot Eclectic updates! https://youtu.be/xoWU2JI3qow

13.01.2022 Hey Miss Peaches............ We've missed you

13.01.2022 All ready for the Inaugural Kombi Queens Maintenance Weekend. Ladies should go home with some more confidence.

11.01.2022 Another productive day with the passenger door fitted after the new trim was modified for the speakers on Dusty. A new under dash tray was also fitted along with the front badge. The dash top was also repainted while it was out. Before fitting the door trims tomorrow all the opening panels and inner front have had rust prevention pumped in with an underbody gun and flexible tube. We had a few things that needed epoxy primer like Miss Peaches quarter windows so I decided to ...get Lucy the B-model Mack truck set up in the booth at the same time. Lucy has been on the back burners for quite a while while a colour has been chosen. The owner is going to prefit the cabin and panels to check everything before final paint in the future. Of course there were too many panels to fit in one sitting so I'll do the rest on the weekend. See more

10.01.2022 Perfection takes time! What's with the intro picture YouTube? https://youtu.be/1ZA8lAF2Gbg

09.01.2022 This ole datto is scrubbing up all right

09.01.2022 One more step left

07.01.2022 A busy couple of days getting the yard cleaned up for the inaugural female only vw maintenance weekend. We should have a great area for them to chill in. Still we managed to get a bit more work done on Bozley with the big polished truck mirrors installed. We ended up purchasing a nutcert gun to make for a neater finish that is easy to maintain. The epoxy was once more out to finish priming Lucy's big panels so I found the space in the booth for more of Chillis bits.... Getting some supplies for the timber floor install for Miss Peaches tomorrow so that can be started.

07.01.2022 Ok ladies we have one position left for our Kombi Queens Maintenance Weekend. November 28th/29th. Join the first session of kombi empowerment and fun. First in best dressed... ***SOLD OUT******** FIRST GROUP FULLY BOOKED !!!!!! There will be more next year so keep an eye out.

05.01.2022 Chillis 21 window samba conversion in full swing

05.01.2022 The big eagle has landed! This worldwide one off kombi will need to be seen to be believed.

04.01.2022 The hard work on Jades makeover continues. Body completely blocked flat with 180/240/400 grits and a final buzz with 500 on the DA sander. There is 3 separate colours on this dr30 which makes for much masking and detail but the final look will be worth it. Got the bottoms finish coated and these can be masked off for the main top colour.

04.01.2022 A fair bit of work to create random shapes for the camo but its fun

03.01.2022 Getting the fun job of assembling the front doors on Miss Peaches sorted. We're making a video on the process to help others out because there's not much on YouTube.

02.01.2022 When you go camping and next minute.............

02.01.2022 A few shots from a busy day

01.01.2022 Jades main body finished and looking resplendent. Just the loose panels to finish. Meanwhile Dustys steps are all buttoned up and Andrew has done a great job with the custom metal shaping. ... Starting to give 914 its last heavy blocking and so far they are coming up flawless. This paintjob will be a knock out.
