25.01.2022 Work doesnt stop after you get home when youre a working foster Dad. Multitasking Mondays. #alldayerrday

24.01.2022 To screen for subvalvular aortic stenosis in Golden Retrievers, auscultation by a veterinary cardiologist from 12 months of age is recommended. If they are clear after their first birthday, development of disease from this point is very unlikely.

24.01.2022 Like cool winter days, there are only a few appointments left in Cairns. Get in touch with @marlincoastvet to nab a spot.

21.01.2022 The Heart Doctor is In This is darling Bing Bing(and his ahhhh-mazing Schnauzy eyelashes) on his heart visit with Dr Geoff yesterday. Bing Bing had a close s...have when he presented to Westside Emergency for ICU care with signs of congestive heart failure. With the proper ICU care, he pulled through that scary episode and has been referred to Dr Geoff to get a thorough heart health check up. Dr Geoff is seen here having a detailed listen to his heart, before giving Bing Bing a heart ultrasound and ECG. Bing Bings mum is concerned about putting him under anaesthesia for some dental work. After seeing Dr Geoff, the guesswork about risk has been removed and he is able to recommend how to keep anaesthesia safe for Bing Bing to his GP vet. This definitely removed a lot of anxiety for his family who wants the best for him! We have a limited few spots remaining for Monday(20th Jan). If your pet or your patient need cardiac consults, please call us at 6463 7228 for an appointment.

21.01.2022 ECHOCARDIOGRAM An echocardiogram, often referred to as an echo, is an ultrasound of the heart. It is an important, non-invasive test in patients with heart m...urmurs, as it enables the visualisation of the chambers and valves of the heart. A Specialist Cardiologist will need to perform this advanced diagnostic test, so your pet will either be referred to a Specialist Veterinary hospital, or we can organise a mobile Specialist Veterinary Cardiologist to examine your pet in our own hospital. Dr Geoff Nicolson is a Specialist Veterinary Cardiologist at Veterinary Cardiac Services who frequently performs echocardiograms at the Albert Animal Hospital, and we can even arrange for you to be present with your pet to watch the whole process. How good is that? We are very grateful for Dr Geoffs services. Veterinary Cardiac Services Australia Pictured is Dr Marilyns dog Penny, who has recently had an echo with Dr Geoff. Thanks for looking after my girl! As you can see, she likes to be as comfortable as possible at all times. See our blog for more information on heart murmurs https://www.albertanimalhospital.com.au//my-vet-heard-a-he If you have any concerns about your pet, please call the Albert Animal Hospital on 3208 9233 or book an appointment online. #heartmumur #veterinarycardiology #veterinarycardiacservices #veterinarymedicine #echocardiogram #albertanimalhospital

20.01.2022 With the further easing of travel restrictions within Queensland, we’re planning a long overdue Townsville and Cairns visit. Dates to be confirmed but feel free to contact @marlincoastvet and James Cook University Vet to reserve your appointment.

19.01.2022 We had our second Heart Clinic on Friday, with Dr Geoff Nicholson from Veterinary Cardiac Service @vcs_australia . Local breeders brought some their beautiful f...eline family for screening ultrasounds to check for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, and other congenital and hereditary disorders. Many of these cool cats have had scans in previous years, and are old hands at the examination process. Some of these prized breeding cats are scanned yearly to ensure that changes havent developed over time, and reduce the risk of these heart diseases being passed to their offspring. Dr Nicholson is available for mobile veterinary cardiology assessments, allowing us to provide our valued clients with specialist services without significant travel. If you would like to learn more about cardiology services or heart disease, you can come in to visit us, email us via [email protected], or call us on 3297 0803 #CardiacClinic #HCM #HypertrophicCardiomyopathy #VCSAustralia #VeterinaryCardiology #HeartScan #echocardiogram #cat #cats #CatScan #VeterinarySpecialist #cardiologist #NorthMacleanFamilyVet #OlleysOrangeCountryMarket See more

19.01.2022 First trip post-lockdown locked in! What’s the slogan? Queenslanders supporting Queenslanders?

18.01.2022 A 3 month old Labrador was referred for evaluation of ascites, due to suspected right-sided congestive heart failure (RS-CHF). Echocardiography revealed 2 right-sided congenital heart defects: Tricuspid Valve Dysplasia (TVD) and Cor Triatriatum Dexter (CTD). In this dog TVD has resulted in severe stenosis and moderate regurgitation (note the severely restricted diastolic motion of the tricuspid leaflets on the below echo loop). CTD is a rare congenital cardiac defect in dogs ...in which a fibrous or fibromuscular membrane separates the right atrium into cranial and caudal chambers, communicating by 1 or more perforations in the dividing membrane (the large cranial chamber and smaller caudal chamber are easily visualised on the below echo loop). CTD commonly results in ascites due to mechanical obstruction of blood flow through the caudal vena cava toward the right atrium. Conversely, blood flow through the cranial vena cava into the right atrium is preserved hence jugular venous distension is not normally observed (however in this case concurrent TVD did result in jugular venous distension). Although CTD can potentially be treated using various interventional techniques, effective and reliable treatment options for severe TVD are lacking. This dog will be treated medically for right-sided CHF. See more

15.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to all the dog dads/all furbaby dads out there who everyday, pick up poops, clean out food bowls, put away toys and give out way too many treats. Life is just better with you. #happyfathersday

14.01.2022 A doggy patient presented this early morning with cardiogenic collapse. She had a weak pulse, was extremely pale and extremely weak. The team from Westside Emer...gency quickly found out that this patient was bleeding around her heart (pericardial effusion) , making it hard for the heart to pump. Dr Geoff was informed and he rushed back to the clinic today, even though he was already on the way to the airport. His scans showed that there was a tumour originating from the base of the heart, which had ruptured and was bleeding. Visualizing a tumour in that region clearly can be challenging, and we are so glad Dr Geoff came by. This helped the family on diagnosis and prognosis. The smooth collaboration between emergency vets and specialist was paramount in speeding up a definitive diagnosis. #landonvetspecialists #vetcardiacservices #westsideemergency #evidencebasedmedicine

05.01.2022 Third Degree AV Block (3AVB) is a form of complete AV dissociation in which no atrial impulses are capable of traversing the AV node. The result is a junctional or ventricular escape rhythm normally with a fixed rate between 20-60bpm. Echocardiography really allows you to visualise the independence of atrial and ventricular contractions as is seen in this Border Collie with 3AVB. The vast majority of 3AVB in dogs is presumed due to age-related degeneration of AV nodal tissue. Permanent pacemaker implantation is the only effective treatment option available.
