25.01.2022 Who can't relate to this? (apart from our previous customers)

24.01.2022 Great article pointing out the sad state of the solar industry at the moment - a lot of poor quality product and poorly educated sales people/companies. Solar itself is such a great product and effective in providing daytime power load. The quality and truth prevail eventually (which can be along time!).

24.01.2022 Concerning news in solar this week with Bosch and Suntech both pulling out of the industry. Bosch couldn't make ends meet with its higher cost but higher quality European product. Suntech was a Chinese giant but shows even better Chinese manufacturers are at risk due to the flood of cheap panels. Bottom line is get the right advice first so you get the right quality gear.

22.01.2022 LED lighting is finally heading towards maturity. We have seen some great retro fit products (including for down lights).

22.01.2022 Notice different coloured panels on the roof? Since 1992 the solar industry has known how to produce quality panels which don't rapidly discolour (http://proceedings.aip.org/resource/2/apcpcs/462/1/599_1). You may notice yellowing panels, essentially its the backing material breaking down. This carries a risk of damage to solder joints reducing system performance and increasing fire risk. Sourcing the right quality is hard - most sales people don't understand the issues - but worth the effort. Solar is an effective investment when done right.

21.01.2022 Pools and spas provide some great lifestyle benefits but come at a cost - often $1,000-$1,500 per year. Did you know the statistics for average household electricity use exclude homes with pools? That's because pools use so much power! Filter pumps and heating pumps mean big bills. However there are ways to reduce the cost of running your pool with smart technology and close management. Contact us on 8396 4432 for help with any aspect of your power needs.

21.01.2022 Winter power tips With cold weather finally arriving and the sun taking a break from normal duties, the two key challenges for power use become heating and lighting. A few simple tips to improve your comfort and reduce power costs: 1. Fix any gaps around doors, windows and close up unnecessary ventilation holes. This will keep the warm air in.... 2. Ensure lights are turned off when not in use. 3. If (or rather when!) you use a clothes dryer ensure the room is ventilated and the lint filter is cleaned after every use. 4. Try to heat the home to no more than 20 degrees and close off unused rooms 5. Check the run time on pool and spa filters. With lower light levels and less use, filtration hours can be reduced to save money.

20.01.2022 This analysis of solar owners connected to the power network run by Ausgrid (NSW). It shows 32% of people achieve only 80% of the expected maximum performance from their solar systems and some households never get that much! The graph also shows great performance is achievable. Independent advice could be the difference between performance and disappointment (hint - contact us!)

19.01.2022 This advert appeared in the paper on 23 February 2013 and we hid the company name. It demonstrates the challenges consumers have buying solar without quality advice. Firstly the SA feed in tariff is $25.8 cents with most large electricity retailers and the deadline to get it is 30 September 2013 (not soon!). Secondly who can tell you what system size you really need? Most calculations we see are result in people buying system far bigger than they should (ie wasting money).... Quality is a tough issue - paper warranties are just that. There are too many panels and inverters out there with no track record or depth of support. Before buying solar call us - you could save in lots of ways.

19.01.2022 While the ACCC is looking at Euro Solar here's another fine example!

19.01.2022 Why get an energy audit from Veritas Power

18.01.2022 Downlights are very popular but there are some issues you should be aware of. They use power inefficiently, creating a lot of heat which is bad in summer and expensive all year round. Secondly the heat can be a problem if they are not installed properly. We took this photo in a customer's roof during a Home Energy Audit and recommended immediate rectification.

17.01.2022 Spent today at the SPARC International Lighting event in Sydney. There are a couple of key observations. The R&D and manufacturing scale going into LEDs is enormous. Secondly integrating intelligent controls (daylight harvesting and proximity sensors) magnifies power savings. Final observation is buyer beware. The range in quality reflects the growth phase of the industry. Of particular interest to me was a number of quality high bay lighting solutions. Retro fitting of...fice fluorescents and downlights is normally an excellent commercial decision. LED high bays have taken longer to hit the right real world performance levels. The time has come to think about your warehouse and factory lighting - the business case is now compelling. As always if you are looking for independent advice, or know someone who is, give us a call - 08 8396 4432.

17.01.2022 Does an investment in energy efficiency increase the value of your home? Historically research from the USA demonstrated solar systems added value to homes, but there was little Australian evidence. The Federal Government Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts did complete a study on Canberra homes sold over a two year period. They used Canberra because the energy efficiency of homes sold is reported on a zero to ten star scale. Using a variety of model...s, researchers found just a half a star increase in the rating would increase the value of a 550,000 home by between $2,500 and $7,000. In South Australia there is no mandatory efficiency measurement of homes put up for sale (yet). However real estate advertisements increasingly list a solar system as a key feature of properties for sale. This implies the market is starting to value the money spent on energy efficiency and generation measures.

16.01.2022 Australia officially has over 1 Million homes with solar power! We think that's a great milestone. Government rebates and high Feed in Tariffs helped drive the "solar coaster". Even without this support prices have now fallen to a point where solar power is cheaper than retail domestic power. Correctly sizing a system is now very important, as is getting the right quality. Are you in the 1 million? If not why not? (do you need some help?)

15.01.2022 We love solar and so seeing articles like this in the NYT aren't great. A solar system is a 25 year investment. For most homes it makes a lot of sense. Obviously people want a bargain but the range in quality (and prices) still makes buying solar an interesting experience. There is a lot of poor quality kit in the market and unscrupulous sales people. Contact us for unbiased advice - we can even just advise on quotes you have received.

13.01.2022 Unofficial Solar Buying Tips Solar power in Australia is a common sight now, with penetration in some areas exceeding 20%. There is some good information out there on purchasing solar for those who haven't yet taken the plunge. The Clean Energy Council Guide is probably the easiest and most authoritative source. I'm regularly surprised and shocked at some of the activity which goes on. So here are my "favourite" things to watch out for when buying solar: 1. The company ...insists on everyone being home for an hour while they do their sales pitch. If the company needs a decision on the spot and a non-refundable deposit...need I go on? 2. Oversized systems. That's what happens with commission sales people. 3. Fast maths. If you don't understand it's probably wrong. 4. Fabulous production estimates. The CEC guide for a north facing roof in Adelaide is 4.2kwH of power per kW of system size. 5. "Special quality panels/inverters". Leave "home brand" to the supermarket shelves - not thousands of dollars of electrical kit! Of course I recommend seeking expert independent advice (no not your neighbour who bought solar last year). But as an independent consultant I would say that wouldn't I.

11.01.2022 Another example of sharp sales practice in the solar industry? Giving the facts is why we're here...

10.01.2022 Not all solar companies are created equal - we can help by scoping an appropriate size system and retailers (without taking a commission!).

09.01.2022 With slightly cooler weather in Adelaide solar panels will start producing more power. It seems odd but in higher temperatures panel performance degrades significantly. Quality panels will perform better in the heat, but the bigger issue is how the panels manage the ongoing expansion and contraction in changing temperatures.

08.01.2022 Ironic timing of this article as Origin Power is out in the Australian attacking solar power again today.

07.01.2022 Energy efficiency is about more than lower power bills. Increasingly "power poverty" is taking a toll on people's health.

07.01.2022 Some major projects going ahead in solar

07.01.2022 Can you spot a potential power bill problem here? We can. It's one of more than 30 things we look for in a home energy audit. Of course in some cases you cannot seal this up for safety reasons. Any obvious energy issues you see daily?

06.01.2022 The pressure is building to reduce the SA FiT sooner than planned...

06.01.2022 RT @PHOTON_Magazine: Yingli ships 2.3 GW in 2012, aims for 3.3 GW this year. http://t.co/1J2jwdiqAt The oversupply of solar panels and high Aussie dollar means now is a good time to invest in solar power. Interesting photo from Yingli showing 'hand made' solar panels. I've been into world class automated manufacturing lines and they didn't look like this! What do you think?

05.01.2022 Great article in SMH. 17.5 cent power PLUS major benefits from energy efficiency at home.

05.01.2022 Story in the Advertiser today reports the extreme heat and floods this summer match climate change predictions. We can expect more heat extremes over time. What are you doing to improve your home's comfort and control rising energy bills?

05.01.2022 Great opinion piece in the Tiser on the complex power system sitting behind our high electricity costs.

04.01.2022 "Destroying planets without harming the environment with nasty greenhouse gases"

02.01.2022 Media release from SA Government Consumer and Business Services today stating they are investigating Unleash Solar for unreasonable responses to consumer complaints after product failures. CBS expressed concern about the company's viability and noted consumers who contract with Unleash Solar risk losing deposits. There have been a number of cheaper solar companies fall out of this industry....buying quality is the best peace of mind you can get.

02.01.2022 The science is in, rooftop solar IS making a difference to our electricity market. Question is, how can you make it work cost effectively for you?

02.01.2022 Good to see power demand and emissions intensity falling in Australia.

01.01.2022 Unfortunately Love Energy has closed up. Despite a range of quality products (in contrast to Unleash Solar) they couldn't keep up with changes in the market. While competition is tough for solar companies, the benefit of solar to households remains sound - if appropriately sized and specified.

01.01.2022 Allegedly misleading panel names and testimonials by Euro. Having seen punters apparently convinced their Chinese panels were made in Australia (or the the USA) I think it's about time the ACCC asked some questions.
