24.01.2022 Helathy LIVER = Healthy the rest of the BODY The main ‘job’ of the Liver goes way beyond filtering the blood, detoxificarion of chemicals and metabolising alcohol & pharmaceutical medications! Sluggish or poor Liver function can be a hidden cause of many other health issues. ... In another words, supporting healthy LIVER function often leads to improvement of: - Weight management - Hot flushes - Andropause (male menopause) - Energy Levels - Thyroid function - Digestive issues - Skin disorders - Type II diabetes Seeing an integrative health care practitioner who not only tests for ‘subclinical’ and clinical deficiencies, but also supports the whole person with Nutritional and Natural/ Herbal medicine is the key to long term health success. 24.01.2022 ‘BRAIN Cancer’ and supportive strategies as a part of the Integrative Oncology Approach NUTRITION is almost always an issue at some point ... ? ? ? The latest research supports the benefit of: ... ‘KETOGENIC CALORIE - RESTRICTED Diet’ Such a diet consists of 75% - 80% fat, 15-20 % of protein and only 5% low carbohydrate (from vegetables/ some fruits) + 40% of optimal caloric intake for body weight & activity! (In another words, the patient eats only 40% of what would he/ ahe normally eat). This difficult to follow, however extremely effective dietary intervention led to: - Decreased intracerebral growth of brain tumours by about 65-35%!!! - Enhanced health and survival relative to control groups (eating low fat/ high carbs diet)! Please note, the same improvements were not observed in the followers of ‘classical ketogenic diet’ (without caloric restriction)! 21.01.2022 ‘THYROID Gland Dysfunction Signs’ and what can be done about it? If you are experiencing several of the below mentioned symtoms and/ or have a family member who has already been diagnosed with a thyroid disorder, it would be wise to see an ‘Integrative Health Care Practitioner’ such as wholistic doctor or a naturopath to have a comprehensive thyroid testing done!... Not all of the following testing is covered by a medicare, but they are essential to a proper assessment of your Thyroid function: - TSH (the only standard test) - Free T3 - Free T4 - rT3 (reverse T3) - Thyroid antibodies (3 types) - Iodine levels (urine test) - FOOD SENSITIVITY Test is also very valuable, especially for those who suffer with gut/ immune and skin issues. If you wish to further investigate any of your health concerns, please contact me directly or call ‘Surfers Health Medical Clinic’ to make an appointmet. M. 0457 575796 T. 07 5592 5999 Veronika

18.01.2022 A new study on FERTILITY and DIET Is there a connection? Researchers from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Harvard Medical School have just published a review of past studies that examined the impact of diet on fertility. Here’s what they found.... For women trying to become pregnant naturally (without assistive reproductive technologies such as in vitro fertilization), the following vitamins and nutrients were linked to positive effects on fertility: FOLIC ACID - VITAMIN B12 - Omega-3 FATTY ACIDS (in fish) - HEALTHY DIETS (such as the Mediterranean diet, which is naturally high in fresh vegetables, omega 3 and plant antioxidants) On the other hand, antioxidants, vitamin D, dairy products, soy, caffeine, and alcohol appeared to have little or no effect on fertility in this review. Trans fat and unhealthy diets (those rich in red and processed meats, potatoes, sweets, and sweetened beverages) were found to have negative effects. Studies of men have found that semen quality improves with healthy diets (as described above), while the opposite has been linked with diets high in saturated or trans fat. For couples receiving assisted reproductive technologies, women may be more likely to conceive with FOLIC ACID supplements or a diet high in ISOFLAVONES (plant-based estrogens with antioxidant activity), while male fertility may be aided by ANTIOXIDANTS.

12.01.2022 ‘PSYCHOLOGICAL causes’ behind WEIGHT Problems ... are treatable conditions just as any other health problem. The main ‘goal’ is to recognise the ‘driving force’ - Anxiety - Unhappiness - Depression - Fear of failure - Insomnia ... and willingly address it with a qualified health care professional! Obesity related eating behaviours, including binge and emotional eating, have been linked with stress and depression! And conversely obesity leads to an increased risk of depr...ession! Which is why dieting does not always work if the nervous system is not supported and nurtured, to prepare the body for a lifestyle change! Naturopathic medicine always aims to treat the whole person: the Mind & the Body! Prescribing natural/ herbal and mineral supplementation backed up by scientific testing, personalised medicine and individual dietary advice, will with patience, love and time restore and regenerate what has been overlooked, abused and damaged. Human body has an increadible ability to heal itself!

11.01.2022 ‘VISCERAL FAT’ - refers to a deeper layer of abdominal fat that surrounds organs and even slim people can have dangerous levels of it. This ‘hidden’ fat can lead to insulin resistance, diabetes, heart disease and high levels of inflammation - which is said to be behind most chronic diseases. Thus following a Healthy DIET shell not be a few weeks ‘weignt loss’ fix, but rather long- term life style goal.... Now, what is a ‘Healtny diet’? - the answer can actually be different for different people, since gender, amount of physical activity, age, genetics, blood group and ‘Food Intolerances’ (not just allergies) all play a role. In general, 80% of heathy diet can consist from 6 - 8 cups of fresh, steamed or oven baked vegetables & some fresh fruits, good quality not processed meat, organic eggs, wild caught fish and also 2.5-3 l of filtered (or even better alkalising) water! If you would like to know more about ‘Food intolerances’ or how you can be tested for them, please contact me directly. Have an amaizing weekend Veronika

11.01.2022 Why can be achieving your DESIRED WEIGHT (Healthy weight) so difficult? This question is asked by many, men and women, so if you are struggling right now with your ‘weight/ fat loss’ journey, you are NOT alone! Diet is, of course, one of the major factors everyone concentrates on when trying to shead a few extra kg! The problem is that since we are all different, the diet which lead to success in each individual case may also be different!... So please stop blaming yourself that you are ‘a failure’ since your neighbour lost 10kg and you following the same diet have lost 2kg! In brief, the most probable reasons are: 1. The diet your neighbour follows IS NOT THE RIGHT DIET FOR YOU! Some people actually do better on ‘low fat diet’ or ‘low carbs diet’ while other thrive on high fat ‘ketogenic diet’ or a ‘paleo diet’! 2. ‘Food Intolerances’! If food challenges your immune system, causes bloating and fatigue, it will most likely also hinder your weight loss! 3. ‘GUT Dysbiosis’ - poor digestion, Candida overgrowth, leaky-gut and low good gut bacteria are all conditions linked to weight gain/ bloating/inability to lose weight/ fatigue and bowel issues! 4. ‘Thyroid gland dysfunction’ - poor metabolism, fatigue and anxiety are major causes of weight gain especially in women! 5. ‘Hormonal imbalances’ - premenopausal, postmenopausal women, andropause (male menopause), PCOS and post pregnancy. 6. ‘Lack of Sleep’ - the body detoxifies, regenerates and revitalises during the sleep and so does the brain and spinal fluid! 7. ‘Chronic (long-term) STRESS Levels’ - will make a weight loss very difficult, since high cortisol levels not only increase insulin spikes but also put the body in ‘fight or flight’ - not a metabolic state for ‘letting go’ excessive fat stores! 8. ‘Adrenal Exhaustion’ - low cortisol lovels accompanied by a constant fatigue and most likely some kind of ‘a bodily pain and aches’ is a warning sign of the body needing to regenerate and rest - and becomes a priority treatment before any weight loss! So if you are having difficulties achieving your healthy weight, I suggest you make an appointment to see an ‘Integrative Health Care Professional’ who will address your underlying health issues. I hope you find the info helpful Veronika

10.01.2022 ‘FOLIC ACID’ deficiencies are NOT always due to the lack of daily Folate intake or supplementation, but ‘Genetic Mutation of so called MTHFR gene’! 09.01.2022 Surprisingly, research studies show that it is mainly our LIFESTYLE FACTORS (exercise, sleep, emotional welbeing, family support, feeling of having a purpose in life and job satisfaction) + OUR DIET which contribute to reducing the incidence of many cancers! ‘Food can either INCREASE or REDUCE INFLAMMATION’ - the leading cause of majority of chronic diseases!... Sugar, artficial sweateners, refind carbohydrates and deep fried foods induce inflammatory processes in the body and challenge body’s detoxification processes. In some instances gluten containing products and dairy can also trigger an inflammatory response. Chronic STRESS negatively influences body’s immune system as well as digestion. Philosophy behind the ‘HOLISTIC MEDICINE’ is to treat each person on individual basis. The same symptom in two people may have several different underlying causes. The same is true when it comes to ‘Food Sensitivities’! I believe that the ‘ALCAT’ Food SENSITIVITY Blood Test is the best for those suffering with chronic pain, weight issues, fatigue and autoimmune disorders since it measures body’s immune responce to a vast variety of foods. ???? ???? Starting with a healthy personalised diet & exercise regime are two big steps towards reducing risk of many diseases! 09.01.2022 FEMALE & MALE HORMONAL IMBALANCES at different stages of life can lead to a variety of health conditions including: - PMS - Endometriosis - PCOS... - Thyroid disorders - Infertility - Anxiety & Depression - Menopause - Andropause (‘male menopause’) - Unwanted Weight gain - Acne - Dry skin - Hair Loss - Fatigue ... In the Integrative Medicine, salivary hormonal samples, especially of male/ female and adrenal glands’ hormones are preferable way of acuratelly testing for any possible hormonal imbalances.

08.01.2022 Interesting article on side- effects of heating up plastics... since obesity, attention deficit disoeder and poor muscle mass are also health issues ofthe ‘adulthood’, perhaps the title shell say children’s, teenagers’ and adults’ food instead ...

07.01.2022 This is not the time to panic bur rather to show Love - Hope - Faith - Kindness - Patience For each other This is a copied message I would like to share...... Retail PHARMACIES do not shut down. Retail pharmacists are the most accessible & frequently visited healthcare professionals. Many of us will be utilized to either help with testing patients or administering a vaccine if & when it becomes available. We all know that we will be exposed to the coronavirus, if we haven’t already. Many of us are caregivers to our children or other family members, so we are committed to protecting ourselves & our patients & minimizing the spread of this virus. That being said, we need YOUR help: PLEASE be patient with the pharmacy personnel. We are trying our best to take care of each & every patient as efficiently as possible. Your health & safety are our #1 priority. We have initiated cleaning & disinfecting protocols that will take staff’s time to perform. This, in addition to increased prescription volume, may increase waiting times for prescriptions. DO NOT come into the pharmacy if you are sick. Send a family member or friend inside, or use prescription delivery if offered by your pharmacy. When waiting for prescriptions to be filled, try not to linger in crowded waiting areas. Sign up for text messaging alerts, if available, so that you know when your prescription is ready. While waiting in line to pick up your prescriptions, please try to leave space between you & the person in front of you. Utilize the technology offered by your pharmacy, such as their app, website, or automated phone system, to order refills. Sign up for automatic refills if offered by your pharmacy. Try to order refills a few days early to give your pharmacy sufficient time to fill them. Do not call the pharmacy for non-essential matters or questions. Try to use credit cards or mobile pay apps to decrease the amount of cash handled by yourself & the pharmacy personnel. Wash your hands or sanitize them before and after touching anything at the pharmacy. I wouldn't do it if I didn't deeply care about helping people and keeping people safe. We ARE going to be there for you when everything else shuts down. We DO put our health and wellbeing after yours. But we're still people, human. So be kind. Be patient. And don't put us at any more unnecessary risk than is already being asked of us. Copied. Lord have mercy Amen

07.01.2022 ‘Common Symptoms of NEUROTRANSMITTERS Imbalances...’ Neurotransmitters are specific types of chemical messengers which transmit nerve signals through out the whole body, from one neuron to another, to a muscle cell, organ or a gland. Most of us heard of ‘Serotonin’ and ‘Dopamine’ which are associated with mood, sleep, motivation, cognition, anxiety and pain receptors.... Beside these two, there are others such as: GABA, Noradrenalin, Adrenalin, Histamine, Glutamate, Acetylcholine and PhenylEthylamine. The symptoms of neurotrasmitters imbalances are strongly associated with: - Addictions/ OCD tendencies - Libido - Mood - Memory - Motivation - REM sleep - Depression/ anxiety - Pain tolerance - Mental exhaustion - Energy/ Alertness - Blood pressure low or high - Headaches - Seasonal allergies - Food allergies - Constipation/ Gut distress Just to name a few ... To practice ‘Personalised medicine’ includes evaluating each patient/ case not only by their symptoms (since they can and do overlap), but also and mainly individualy! I believe that testing for ‘Neurotransmitters’ should be a standard procesure for anyone presenting with a long term symptoms mentioned above. Please, do not hesitate to ask any further questions. To make an appointment please inbox me. Thank you Veronika

07.01.2022 ‘Why Chronic STRESS Leads to WEIGHT GAIN?’ Long Term STRESS - Increases CRAVINGS - Leads to FATIGUE ... Most of us have experienced negative changes in our health while during intense stress/ pressure.... So WHY is that? And HOW can it be changed? The basic biochemical explanation behind ‘Chronic (long term) Stress & Weight gain’ is associated with: - Increased INFLAMMATION in the body, which can by intself lead to variety of health conditions beside weight gain - Increased CORTISOL Levels (stress hormone), which leades to: - Increased in Appetite in and mainly - Sugar CRAVINGS - Cortisol also causes increased GLUCOSE production which, if challenged long term, then presents as: - INSULIN Resistance (condition of type II diabetes! Yes stress ‘weakens pancreas’) Interestingally, from my experience as a clinical naturopath, I noticed majority of patients presenting in the clinic do not actually ‘realise or know’ that they are stressed! CHRONIC STRESS has a ‘Cumulative effect’ ... meaning one stressful event after another will eventually weaken the adrenal & thyroid glands over the time ... sometimes over the years or decades... then the body starts to shut down. So WHAT can be done about any ‘Stress Cumulative’ health symptoms? 1. See an integrative Health Care Practitioner 2. Have your Adrenal - Thyroid - Liver and Gut health assessed 3. Be tested for Nutritional deficiencies/ DNA mutations 4. Choose to take high quality, naturopathic supplements specificallly prescribed for you! I hope you find this info helpful please do not hesitate to contact me for your personalised health assessment. Veronika

06.01.2022 Just saw this post about ‘The 1st trial of Medical Cannabis for Brain Cancer’ Sharing to raise awareness ...

06.01.2022 Exposure to toxins such as pesticides & herbicides is one of the risks of developing cancer, especially ‘Lymphatics cancers’. However, they are being used more than ever ... correlating with an increasing rate of cancers!

05.01.2022 Proper ‘MITOCHONDRIAL Function’ is essential for healthy cellular matabolism, over-all health and body function. ‘Mitochondrial DYSFUNCTION’ (MD) has been implicated in the development of many chronic diseases including: Chronic fatigue - Depression - PCOS - Non alcoholic fatty liver disease - Type II diabetes - Insulin resistance - Fibromyalgia - Poor memory and even Cardiovascular disease!... PAIN is commonly associated with PCOS, depression, chronic fatigue and of course fibromyalgia. One of the reasons for chronic pain is - ‘lactic acid build up’ which production is fueld by mitochondria (body’s powerhouses) using glucose (sugar) as a source of energy, instead of ketones derived from fat! Some major CAUSES of MD are: - Immunological changes (infections, viruses such as EBV, Ross river) - Chronic inflammation - Stressors physical & emotional - Lack of oxygen (from shallow breathing/ low iron status) - Major nutritional deficiences (vitamin D3, C and E, selenium, B group vitamins, Co Q 10, msgmesium, resveratrol just to name a few) Since conventional treatments of these conditions do not address ‘Mitochondrial Dysfuntion’, its progress can lead to altered gene expression and severe hormonal/ neurotransmitters imbalances. Women suffering from PCOS, would greatly benefit from: Dietary changes supporting good fats as their main source of energy production Reducing insulin resustance with nutients such as ‘Acetyl L- carnitine’ an amino acid deficient in MD Correcting their IRON status - whether low or too high (iron overload) High quality Magnesium supplementation - which if deficient will lead to reduced mitochondria in the cells Reducing systemic inflammation with having fresh & clean diet, antioxidants such as vitamin C, E, resveratrol and selenium as well as regular moderate exercise! I hope you find this information helpful And please note, my clinic practice has now relocated to ‘St. George MermaidBroadbeach Medical Centre’ on the Gold Coast Highway (next to Sizzler). Happy Spring Time Veronika

04.01.2022 Causes of ACNE are to be more than ‘skin deep’... Since ACNE, spec. Acne vulgaris, is a multisystem disorder, I would like to take time to point at the main drivers and pathways of dysregulation ftom the Naturopathic point of view. As causes of acne may vary from person to person, an individualised treatment plan is crucial for the long term skin health imptovement and its maintenance.... ‘Multisystem’ disorder means the Skin lesions/ cysts and scars are ‘further than skin deep’, meaning they are actually reflection what is going on inside and the rest of the body. The main clinical findings in chronic acne patients are: Sex hormones imbalances (such as PCOS, amenorrhoea, PMS, impaired testosterone/ androgen conversion) Gastrointestinal disorders (IBS, Leaky gut, candida overgrowth, ulcerative colitis, etc.) which all eventually lead to: Gut-Microbiome changes (this condition is also the result of long term use antibiotic therapies, often very commonly prescribed in skin disorders) Psychological/ Nervous system disturbances (incl. thyroid disorders) Insuficient intake of nutrients such as: zinc, vitamin A, D, B-group vitamins and essential fatty acids Adrenal stress/ high cortisol levels, which stimulates sebum production Pro- inflammatory diet (high in sugars, dairy products and poor in nutrients) as well as individual ‘Food intolerances’ (which may need to be testrd for). 01.01.2022 Increadible results so far

01.01.2022 ‘Chronic INFLAMMATION and WEIGHT Gain’ Most people associate inflammation with arthritic or muscular pain, skin rashes, itchiness or some kind of swelling. Today however, I want to point at the ‘silent inflammatory condition’ - stubborne fat loss!... Chronic (systemic) Inflammation is one of the major contributors of weight gain (especially if long-term stress is present)! Thus ‘Fat/ weight loss’ journer shell really be called ‘Getting YOUR Health Back’! To maintain healthy weight successfully long term I suggest to consume 80% of times so called ‘Anti-inflammatory Foods’ as well as drink plenty of pure water and exercise. As well as supplement with high quality, standerdised herbal liver extract and/ or ‘Curcumin’ = Tumeric extract! Such a dietary life style will not only encourage excessive kg weight loss, but will also most likely: - Make you feel ‘lighter’ - Decrease bloating - Improve alertness - Encourage skin health - Experience less bodily aches & pains If you need further assistance on your weight/ fat loss journey or need a help to address any health issue, please do not hesitate to contact me! 01.01.2022 ‘OESTROGEN Dominance in Males and how to TEST for it?’ Excessive oestrogen (E) levels : Low Testosterone (T) ratio are quite common and they are NOT always related to the aging process! The main SYMPTOMS of this Hormonal Imbalance are:... - Decline in or already low T level - Increased andominal fat - Feeling tired - Loss of muscle mass (no exercise)! - Mild depression - Insulin resistance= Type II Diabetes - BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) - Breasts enlargement (some cases) - Excessive or sudden hair loss - Low libido/ erectile dysfunction The major CAUSES are: High body fat % relative to muscle lean mass (Fat being an actual the ‘storage’ for E) Poor dietary choices & chronic stress levels leading to high cortisol (stress hormone) Exposure to ‘xenoestrogens’ (synthetic compounds mimicking E), such as parabens, tap water, artificial food additives... ) Heavy (daily) alcohol consumption Using plastic containers for heating up food in microwave! Exposure to pesticide/ herbicides (farmers or even growing up on the farm) High animal protein consumption of non- organic and not-grass fed animals and mainly chicken! High exposure to chemical cleaning products & detergents! SALIVARY Test is the CHOICE for hormone testing! The most reliable way of testing male & female sex hormones is via ‘SALIVARY sample’ - it measures FREE amount of hormone which is highly bioavailable for the body! Vs. BLOOD Tests measure levels of steroid hormones binded to the ‘carrier protein’ which is not all 100% available for the body to be used. If you are experiencing any of the above mentioned symptoms or would like to simply check your hormonal levels, please do not heaitate to contact me. Veronika M. 0457 575796
