25.01.2022 For those of you who thought you got away with it....... It's time to dust off those running pants.

25.01.2022 It feels like there is a Mirena/IUCD hate campaign going on at the moment! As a sonologist, I do find Mirenas and IUCDs in all sorts of weird and wonderful places. But they are usually put in this weird and wonderful place when inserted - they rarely migrate there. One of my colleague even puts them in at the time of a Caesarean section. You can be sure it is in the right place then!

24.01.2022 Apologies, our phones were out all day and we had a limited forwarding service available to us. Unfortunately this issue has not yet been resolve and we are at the mercy of technology. Please bare with us and email [email protected] if you cant get through and we promise to call back. We will get this sorted as soon as possible.

22.01.2022 And Mum didnt feel a thing! At Vestrum Ultrasound for Women we have always been very supportive of friends and family members attending the ultrasound scan with mums-to-be. However, in the current COVID-19 climate - to protect women and our staff - for the foreseeable future we have asked women to come unaccompanied. As usual however, we are happy to provide a USB stick for the family album - which may include a video clip like this. In the meantime, keep safe.

22.01.2022 In a world where so many women are having babies weighing over 4kg at birth, there are still a lot of small babies out there. Our sonographers are experienced at performing all Dopplers used in the assessment of smaller babies and we are the only local ultrasound department where the reporting is performed by an experienced obstetrician. For all the medics and budding medics out there, here is a link to the new international guidelines on scanning small babies and assessing babies where the growth may be slowing down. Not all ultrasounds are the same.

20.01.2022 Always lovely to see children sharing nicely! At Vestrum, because we can offer unique continuity we are able to track the growth of twins carefully - without getting them mixed up. Even when they share a sac.

20.01.2022 Evidence to prove that even though at 19 weeks their eyelids are fused, boys still have a fascination with their appendage!

19.01.2022 The 10th Womens Fun Run was a breezy one this morning! Thanks so much to all the organisers for making it a fantastic morning and to everyone who pitched up for the run/walk.

19.01.2022 Supported by Vestrum Obstetrics and Gynaecology

18.01.2022 Hello baby!! All our scans are medically indicated therefore you need a valid referral for your medicare rebate. This is a "dating scan" - performed at 10 weeks. We confirm the due date, check the number of babies, check that the heart beat is present and that the baby is developing normally. We also check the uterus and ovaries. A 3D image is captured whenever possible - for us it is a quick way to ensure the external structures are developing normally and for new parents to get a first proper glimpse at their developing baby.

18.01.2022 Babies rarely look cute at 20 weeks because they dont have enough body fat and tend to look a bit skeletal. However, this little one bucked the trend.

18.01.2022 When were not training for the fun run/walk, we are still scanning at Vestrum! Our 3D internal probe is a painfree way to assess the shape of the uterus. Helpful if you have any fertility concerns. This uterus looks pretty normal on the outside, but on the inside there are two completely separate cavities - they look like bunny ears. It is septate - a bicornuate uterus also has two cavities but on the outside there are two separate uteri seen.

18.01.2022 The 12 week scan is not only about checking your babys risk of Down syndrome, it is also a chance to examine your baby from head to toe and rule out structural abnormalities that you wouldnt want to wait until 19 weeks to find. The 12 week scan is recommended even if you have had a non invasive blood prenatal test such as the Harmony. If your doctor asks us, we can also calculate the risk of preeclampsia and having a small baby too.

17.01.2022 Busy playing soccer at 9 weeks!

16.01.2022 At Vestrum Ultrasound for Women - when you are having your scan, you see what we see and well happily answer any questions you have. Your baby might be in the dark but you shouldnt be.

16.01.2022 Always wanting to do our best for patients... so please spread the word that Dating Scans at Vestrum are now Bulk-billed.

14.01.2022 For those of you who thought you got away with it....... Its time to dust off those running pants.

12.01.2022 This is the third coil I have seen in a cervix this week! Two were Mirenas - the progesterone in the stem can still work as a contraceptive even if it is not in the right place - although definitely not recommended. One was copper and still provided effective contraception for the 5 years it was in. It was a multiload - see the second picture; that cant have been comfy!

12.01.2022 More coil horror stories! This is an ultrasound picture of a coil being hugged by a uterus which wont let go. It has been there for 45 years!

11.01.2022 Please bear with us at Vestrum. We are having difficulties with our phone lines and email (thank you NBN!). You can reach us on the appointments form via our website and our fax is working well. Or just pop in and say hello if you can - we are open 9-5 Monday to Friday. Thanks for your patience - we are trying very hard to sort this out. BTW, this is an image from today, of an umbilical cord going into a placenta. Another thing that is completely unappreciated until it goes wrong.

11.01.2022 27 weeks and so much to think about....At Vestrum Ultrasound for Women well thoroughly check up on your babys wellbeing without cutting corners. 5 weeks to 40 weeks +. Just bring along a valid referral.

10.01.2022 Two peas in a pod! These twins are not only sharing a placenta, they are also sharing a sac. In Bunbury we would expect to see this once every 5-7 years!

10.01.2022 Some babies are helpful - others not so! Regardless, we will always endeavour to examine your baby carefully. And produce a comprehensive unambiguous report - written by an obstetrics and gynaecology specialist for a GP, specialist or GP Obstetrician.

10.01.2022 As Christmas is almost upon us and we reach out to family and friends with a warm heart, all of us at Vestrum. Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Fertility would like to spread that love around some more. With a special thanks to Ks Home Kitchen who produced these lovely cakes. Merry Christmas everyone young and old, big and small xxx!

09.01.2022 Sometimes there is information you would rather not know.... This baby has the cord wrapped around its neck 3 times! We look for this specifically when a baby is breech and we are considering trying to turn the baby around. BTW - this baby has safely arrived in the outside world. He had almost untangled himself and only had one loop around his neck on D day.

07.01.2022 This year get behind something truly wonderful. The Womens Fun Run is so much more than "just a run". Anyone who has participated knows about the training sessions and support for women prior to the event and then the awesome local causes that the money raised goes to help. Please tag a friend and share to make this 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY a really big event.

07.01.2022 Vestrum, Ultrasound for Women is delighted to announce its support for Exies Hockey Club with the sponsorship of their womens teams. Team sports are more than exercise, they are about collaboration, strategy, skills and a determination to perform for the benefit of others (the team) to the very bitter end. Exies club can boast a very true commitment to its community, serving it well through its social programs at its club house and through its hockey outreach program at local primary schools. Hockey is a fantastic sport that promotes inclusion, participation and equality. These are the reasons why, at a time that local sporting groups are crying out for additional funding and support, the team at Vestrum have stepped forward to become part of and associated with the Exies club.

06.01.2022 2020 has not been the best year - and we're not even half way through. This 16 mm bean should arrive in 2021 - when the world will be a different place. The latest plan to relax the COVID restrictions further will allow us, from Monday 8th June, to allow a support person to attend all ultrasound scans. Another step towards attempts to return to normal. Happy WA Day tomorrow!

06.01.2022 I know you havent heard from us for a while... Just a gentle reminder that having a scan reported by an onsite specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist can make a huge difference. You dont have to have your gynaecology or antenatal care through Vestrum and we do accept all obstetric and gynaecology referrals.

05.01.2022 Momentum is building for the up coming Fun Run!!

03.01.2022 One cause of heavy periods or bleeding in between your periods is a polyp in the cavity of the uterus. Heres one - like a pea near the top of the uterus - beautifully outlined by some fluid.

03.01.2022 The colour Doppler box is a useful bit of kit. It picks up movement - hopefully blood flow - with red depicting flow towards the probe and blue, away. These cysts on the same ovary look very similar but one has an excellent blood supply with the characteristic ring of fire associated with a temporary post ovulation cyst (the corpus luteum) and the other does not. The colour box helps us decide which cyst is likely to resolve (the one on the left) and which one isnt (the one on the right).

03.01.2022 Proof that the fetal position exists!!

02.01.2022 And so it is a sorrowful goodbye but a jubilant hello! Po has decided to move back to the big city and she will be sorely missed at Vestrum Ultrasound for Women. Although she doesnt seem to be overly upset by this (!) we will all miss her dearly. However, I have the greatest pleasure in introducing Sam - a very experienced sonographer. Sam joins us on Mondays and Thursdays and has a special interest in fetal echocardiography. Welcome to the team!

02.01.2022 Sometimes, a fertilised egg doesnt quite make it to where it should be. This is a 3D picture of a uterus from the front. The inverted white triangle is the cavity of the uterus and the surrounding dark grey is the muscle wall of the uterus. The egg appears to have implanted in one the top corners of the uterus and grown into the muscle wall. Difficult to treat as a pregnancy here cannot continue safely, and incredibly unlucky.

02.01.2022 Fibroids are knots of muscle from the wall of the uterus and they can be located anywhere in the uterine wall. At Vestrum we do our best to localise measure and classify fibroids. This one - about the size of a kumquat - is mostly in the cavity of the uterus and distorts the normal upside down triangular shape of the cavity. This alerts the gynaecologist that some treatments for heavy periods are not appropriate.

01.01.2022 Its here again ladies.... this long running event (pun intended) that helps local charities/groups and brings us together at the same time. We are very proud to continue to be able to support the Bunbury Runners Club in staging this fantastic event. Tag your Besties and help to make this a great day again.... please :)
