25.01.2022 Todays tips: Before venturing out into public places ensure your puppy is fully vaccinated to prevent them contracting any viruses/diseases. Learn how to read canine body language to keep your puppy safe when out and about.... Do NOT let your puppy off lead until a reliable recall has been taught. This will ensure your puppy stays safe at all times. Public areas like the beach or dog park can be overwhelming for a young puppy and therfore, getting scared may mean your puppy runs off or gets chased by other dogs wanting to play. Remaining in control at all times ensures your puppy has a positive and safe experience when out in public. Use a toy or a bottle of treats for recall training only and make this super exciting and positive at home. When out and about use this same method to recall your puppy. Top tip 1 Fill a water bottle with yummy treats. 2 At home, shake the bottle gently then reward your puppy from the bottle with a treat. 3 Repeat a few times when around your puppy. 4 Start recalling your puppy when you shake the bottle and reward when your puppy comes to you 5 Take this treat bottle out and about and use only for recalls Your puppy will associate their name and the shaking bottle with a positive reinforcement (the yummy treat). This is a great way to start building strong and positive recalls If your after more training advice please get into contact with your local VetLove clinic.
