24.01.2022 The Victorian Council of Churches continues to urge all Victorians to observe all restrictions being imposed to help curb the Covid 19 virus. For many people of Faith this is a difficult time as the usual rituals are unavailable. However the VCC encourages people to think of alternative ways of practicing ones faith... looking out for neighbours, seeking the welbeing of our Street or community. Finding places of solitude that allows for prayer and meditation. Finding ways of expressing the hope that is within.

Fr Macaricus will be remembered for his graciousness, his generosity and his humbleness by those privileged to have meet him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the whole Copt community in Melbourne at this time and Council pledges to stand with you and hold you all in our prayers. Rev Ian Smith EO

12.01.2022 If you looked up in the sky this morning, you will have seen this lovely skywriting. A not so subtle, but timely reminder for us all as we prepare for the days ahead in ways we have never experienced. They are still being created as we post this, so go outside your front door and look into the sky. Blessings to those who organised this.

07.01.2022 The Victorian Council of Churches as a member of the Multi Faith Advisory Group is happy to post this joint statement written by the members of the Multi Faith advisory Group: A statement from the Multifaith Advisory Group UNIFIED LEADERSHIP AT THIS UNPRECEDNETED TIME... We are all utterly committed to preventing the spread of coronavirus and recognise how crucial these next days and weeks are for Victoria. This was the common mind of all members of the Multifaith Advisory Group, who met over Skype on Thursday 2 April 2020. It is a complex time for everyone, and there are issues and many questions that are coming to us. Our meeting helped answer some of these questions and raised others. Our primary objective is to ensure our faith communities are helping our whole community prevent the further spread of this virus. Many of us have personal and institutional links to places overseas where coronavirus has caused and is causing great grief and anxiety. Our hearts break over the stories we know and the images of suffering we see. We are mindful that the many layers of government and community leadership are having to respond to a fast-changing environment. Our faith communities are raising questions about everything from burial guidelines to live-streamed worship in closed places of worship. Many of these are questions that we and other leaders have never had to consider! Questions, in fact, that we never ever thought we would have to consider in our wonderful State of Victoria! We recognise it will take time to answer every question and to integrate the best advice. We recognise our political and community leaders are in an extraordinarily demanding period, responding now to coronavirus so soon after the devastating summer bushfires. Our prayers and meditations, and our community work for the common good will continue in support. That includes the safe provision of food, counselling and just a friendly phone call to people needing encouragement and company. While living this life we are now given, which is so different to what we planned for 2020, we want to convey, in this statement, our unity of purpose. As faith communities of Victoria, we will do our best together in this window of opportunity. The bonds of friendship and trust we have built up over many years in our multi- faith Victoria have been beneficial at other times of crisis. We offer our unified leadership at this unprecedented time. ----------- The Multifaith Advisory Group comprises representatives more than 25 faith organisations and is facilitated and supported by the Victorian Multicultural Commission. 07.01.2022 Churches across Australia have been providing practical, emotional and spiritual support in the bushfires crisis. Because they are embedded in their own communi...ties and do things quietly, you wont see an exhaustive list anywhere. John Squires has a helpful outline of what he is seeing happening. Thanks John.
