25.01.2022 This year we are so excited to be producing not only our annual wall calendar but also a diary. The diary is A5 size, spiral bound, with a colour photo of one of our marvelous dogs and cats on each double page. Each double page covers a week so lots of dogs and cats. We are very grateful to our photographers, Manny Cifra, Lyndsay Beasley from Paw Focus, Heather Dixon from Dixon Photography, and to our adopters. ... We are preparing our order form for the diary and calendar. These will be ready for posting in the third week of October. They currently can only be ordered on Paypal and the first 50 orders will receive a bumper sticker with their package. Please support us. By buying one or both of these you are not only helping to support us through a very difficult year but also gaining something we hope will give you pleasure, especially reading the stories in the calendar, and the many photos both in the calendar and diary. And of course we have other online merchandise available. https://www.victoriandogrescue.org.au/victorian-dog-rescue-

20.01.2022 When Millie came into our care she was quite reserved but over the past week her personality is beginning to shine, and she is quite the happy, sassy lady! Millie really loves her walkies! She has a morning and an evening walk , 30 - 40 minutes each and she has also been to the beach! She LOVED it - went running to the sea with another larger dog and even had a paddle! Most of all, she loves exploring close to her human and waiting for treats. Millie has spent most of her lif...e inside and does not seek outside unless following one of her foster siblings out, or when going for a walk. She will trot along and have extensive sniffs all around the neighborhood, and want to stay close once she has bonded to her person(s). Millie is fine with dogs, she is non-reactive. She has shown no inclination to chase the cats at her foster home - she was interested at first, more in the way of 'talking' to them with weird little squealy barks - but after a few days is totally fine. She wants to sleep close to her person once she trusts you, and will often cry in her sleep, but with reassurance, she settles, and this is improving. She spends a lot of her time on the sofa, or in her round bed during the day. Once she has settled and trusts her person, Millie will be a devoted little companion. For the moment, she is still in transition - but she is an optimistic little soul, and takes things in her stride. We would love to see Millie head to her forever home with one or more doggie companions of similar size and age, and one or more adult humans who will give her the loving home she so desires. 19.01.2022 Zephyr is home on medication. We will not know for six weeks or so if the antibiotics have killed the infection. We could not find its source. But he is comfortable, eating and more himself, even barking the other day. So now it is waiting. Zephyr is an absolutely gorgeous dog and is a delight to have around the house. He is very intelligent, gentle and loving and loves to bury his head into you for a snuggle. He loves to lay around close to you during the day but stays... in his bed all night. Zephyr has a great personality and a very expressive face. He has the capacity to let you know what he wants and communicates by sitting in front of you with a quizzical face, making talking sounds. Zephyr is very food motivated. Food on the bench can be tempting but his foster family are working on this behaviour and he is improving in leaps and bounds. We think he would flourish with someone he can keep company - a gentle household. Somewhere that he can get and give lots of affection. Zephyr is an absolute sweetheart and a delightful companion. Whoever adopts this wonderful boy will be lucky indeed. 19.01.2022 Lovely Shad was rescued from Moira Pound about five years ago with a leg and a club foot so deformed he couldn't walk. He has continuing health issues even after two operations but he loves life, people, food and his mate Fossil - not sure about the order. North Road Vet Centre has been a familiar stop - but sorry we're not sure you are on the list of favourite places.

17.01.2022 Rambo needs a foster carer. Can you help? He has had a tough time over all and will need an experienced person who will give him the space and time he needs to settle. Rambo walks well on lead; he can sit, drop and stay on command. The ideal home for Rambo will see him able to chill with his human and share their day.... All this gorgeous boy wants is people to reassure him he is loved and all is okay. Your love will be returned tenfold. But you must understand he will be nervous and will need space initially. 15.01.2022 Another Drought Dog from Mildura Pound in 2007 still going strong. "George will be 14 next month and is going great. He still has his two walks a day and even has a bit of a run around with our other rescue border collie, Rusty, who is 4. They are great buddies. George lost his soulmate, our other rescue border collie, Rufus, a few years ago and was very sad for a few months, as we all were. But having the youngster Rusty around has given him a new lease on life and he is qu...ite an energetic senior citizen now, although he does like to snooze in between walks. We have moved to a larger property in the Bellarine with lots of space and endless beaches for George and Rusty. We dearly hope George has a few good years in him still. We really appreciate Victorian Dog Rescue and the opportunity to adopt George".

15.01.2022 Rafe and Ryder are still so bonded They came to us as kittens in 2018. Rafe and Ryder have now been renamed Gary and Steve. They are the most hilarious joyful little guys! They are still hooked to the hip and never leave each other's side. Gary (Rafe) is an absolute baby and wants to be carried and pet at all times. Steve (Ryder) is a dog! He plays fetch, cares more about his favourite ball than his food and even does dog tricks! They are both so unique and so so loving and sweet. we are blessed to have them. #VicDRG #VictorianDogRescue #animalrescue #savinglives #adopted #happytails #secondchances #nonprofit #cat #catrescue #notashelter #volunteers #adoptdontshop #catbrothers #catsisters

09.01.2022 Zephyr is still struggling with his health and needs a kind person who can cope with his diabetes and other issues. Zephyr is an absolutely gorgeous dog who will be rehomed as an only dog. And no cats either please. As some of you would know he has been at death’s door and returned. Zephyr is a delight to have around the house and is fine when left home alone. He is not destructive or naughty and will just sleep on his bed while you are out. He is very intelligent, gentle an...d loving and loves to bury his head into you for a snuggle. He loves to lie around close to you during the day but stays in his bed all night. Zephyr has a great personality and a very expressive face. He has the capacity to let you know what he wants and communicates by sitting in front of you with a quizzical face, making talking sounds. He would flourish in a gentle household where he can have lots of company and affection. He does have some mild separation anxiety if you leave him alone outside his normal surroundings, will bond intensely, and you will need to want a dog who will make you his whole world. Zephyr is an absolute sweetheart and a delightful companion. Whoever adopts this wonderful boy will be lucky indeed. They themselves will be special people for responding to this boy’s extra needs. He is generally fine with other dogs but would rather not share you. We would prefer to rehome him in the Melbourne area. 08.01.2022 Please note: Lew will be rehomed as an only dog no cats please. Lew’s ideal home would be a farm where he can potter around and help with all the jobs, or with someone who can take him everywhere they go. He really does loves to be in on the action and loves going in the car. Lew prefers to have his people around at all time, although his carers have been working on him spending some time alone in the afternoon and he is getting much better at this, but he can get quite anxio...us if he thinks he is being left. Lew longs for human company, however, can be reactive with other animals and as such should be an only pet. That means no visiting dogs either. He can be fine with some dogs but not like others so he is best just to have walks in quiet places where there is not too much interaction with other dogs. Lew does display typical heeler traits and as such would benefit from an owner that has previous experience in this breed. Lew enjoys two twenty-minute walks a day and would love just hanging out with his person. Lew is a bright little guy and would benefit from mental stimulation, games, tricks or being taught something new. He came to us as a palliative care dog but he has really bounced back. There is a little bit of urine leakage, usually at night, so not ideal for those with pristine carpets everywhere. In most ways he is a total sook, so you must want an affectionate boy. He adores music, and if you are a shower-only singer be assured Lew will be an appreciative audience. He loves nothing better than to be either sung to or to have music playing. And as far as singing to him while you massage him gently and he drifts off to sleep, well that is his idea of heaven. 07.01.2022 Little Perdita and her sibling came from Mildura Pound in 2007. Her adopter says: "This was one of the best decisions we ever made She has been a fantastic dog, she just gives so much love, loyalty, and funny. We also got her a friend about 2 weeks later and they were the best pals, Carley but we lost her two years ago to Cushings.... So now we have adopted another one Marlie, but she knows whose boss. Perdy has now just been diagnosed with a lump on her liver but our vet has advised because of her age it would not be a great thing to operate on but she still loves going for walks, playing, and on these cold days sleeping. Never a day goes by that we as a family don't appreciate what she has and still does bring to our family. 06.01.2022 Lovely Sadie Jezeroon adored dogs, and was re-homed accordingly. Sadie is settling in so beautifully. I’ve attached heaps of photos :) She has become very good friends with our greyhound, he is the cleanest he’s ever been thanks to her very helpful constant grooming. Her and Sherry (our 10 year old cat) are slowly bonding and are happy to share a bed. Sherry doesn’t hesitate to hiss and remind Sadie she is boss though. Sadie is very playful and loves chasing her toy mouse up and down the hallway waiting patiently for us to throw it again ( She is such a little angel and we love her to bits!

06.01.2022 This pair are for temporary foster only under our Pets in Crisis program then they will go back to their family. - Lovely, smoochy cats, who need a quiet, adult only, indoor house.’

06.01.2022 Chanel came to us as a young mum in 2016. She is now Death Claw! Death Claw still has her little squeak when I pick her up but that quickly turns into a purr. She follows me everywhere . She now has two more cats in her life who drive her nuts but she loves them. All in all she's a happy healthy kitty that I love dearly and so thankful I was able to adopt. #VicDRG #VictorianDogRescue #animalrescue #savinglives #adopted #happytails #secondchances #nonprofit #cat #catrescue #notashelter #volunteers #adoptacat

05.01.2022 Jaele is a special needs girl. Jaele is a friendly, gentle girl who enjoys the company of her dog and cat housemates, but is also happy to spend time by herself on a sunny windowsill. She would also be content as an only pet, but we think her friendly nature means she would prefer some human company. Also, Jaele was born with a medical condition which means she needs help with toileting. She needs to have her bladder/bowels expressed two or three times a day. She is quite use...d to this, never having known anything else, and with some simple training, this condition can be easily managed by a dedicated human. Her bowels also mean that she leaves little pellets like a rabbit with the right diet again this can be managed. Jaele’s toileting needs mean that she really needs a home where a human is home for a good amount of time each day, so she would be perfectly suited to retired a person, someone who works from home, or anyone who is home for long periods. She loves human company and interaction, and has even learned to high-five with her humans. Luckily, she loves cuddles and is very happy sitting on the couch next to any human willing to give her a head rub. She is quite the athlete, and can easily scale a garden fence, climb a tree, jump onto a bench She would love to have a safe outdoor area but can never be allowed loose anywhere unsafe as she would die a horrible death as a stray with her condition. She loves to play chase games with cat toys and torchlight beams, and will sleep pretty much anywhere, by herself or close to humans. All that play works up an appetite for a young girl, and Jaele loves her food, so we recommend close monitoring of food bowls if other cats are fed, as she is known to search out leftovers and may overeat if left to her own devices. Jaele’s foster family describe her as a really special young cat, full of affection and playful energy, but happy to give everyone their space .... the perfect companion for understanding humans. But that human must understand they are taking on a special needs cat. Jaele is looking for a really special person. 04.01.2022 Please note: Quigley would like to be a well-loved only dog. Quigley is pretty quiet but incredibly sweet and likes to stay close to you at all times. He loves a good back scratch and massage and sticks out his little paw if you dare stop too soon! He is deaf and shows no response to any noise at all. He is starting to get cataracts also, so his vision isn't all that great either. He has a great sense of smell though, and can smell food cooking miles away! He loves his sleep,... getting a good 12 hours shut eye each night and then spends the rest of the day exploring every inch of the house and backyard. Quigley hasn't had a lot of training. His new family will have endless love and patience to give this endearing boy the wonderful home he deserves. 04.01.2022 Grayson is incredibly loving and smoochy ~ all he wants is to be by your side. Since he has been with his foster carer he has started to show a more playful side and he loves his new squeaky toy and playing tug-of-war is just his favourite thing. He walks extremely well on a lead - no pulling at all usually but he is a very strong boy so needs a gentle but firm hand as he can get quite excited when he meets another dog. He loves people and is keen to say hello to any human he... meets. Grayson can sit and drop and is working on his stay command. He will benefit greatly from obedience classes as he is very bright and focuses well on his person and needs to use up some of that playful energy. When he's home though, he is happy to just chill out and be a big couch potato and tummy rubs are always welcome. Grayson does have epilepsy which is being managed with medication, but one side effect is a big appetite. His height makes it easy for him to reach a kitchen bench, so don't tempt him by leaving anything tasty out as it may disappear! On the plus side, he loves low calorie snacks like carrot and watermelon. What would be a great home for Grayson? A big backyard with room to run and play. Perhaps the company of a gentle, but older dog who can help build his confidence and really let him shine. He is a big beautiful brown eyed boy with so much love to give. Grayson has claimed our hearts. Will you be the next heart he claims? 03.01.2022 Please note: Floyd would prefer to live with another dog that is a good playmate for him. Floyd is a real character, a friendly boy who loves pats so much he will press his head into your hand for a pat or, even better, a head scratch. 03.01.2022 Bear Hartwell is gentle, sweet, energetic, affectionate and communicative. He is an incredibly loyal dog and bonds quickly with the people in his world. Bear quickly becomes your shadow and will follow you everywhere. He loves rubs and cuddles and will bestow you with his attention all day every day. What more could you ask for? Bear is very good with other dogs - he is gentle and not at all aggressive. He is house trained, good on lead, excited initially but does settle with... command. Bear is obedient for the most part, sometimes you may need to repeat the commands depending on what he is doing. This incredible boy loves his walks and retrieving his ball. He just adores being entertained by you and loves to be with someone all the time. A spacious home with a dog door and large backyard would be a wonderful outcome for Bear. It is important his new family has the desire and time to engage him in play, exercise and affection. Any time invested in Bear's love and care will be returned tenfold. The family who Bear chooses to take him home will be very lucky indeed. Bear is untested with cats. 02.01.2022 RIP Little Henrietta, you had a long and loved life after escaping Mildura Pound in 2007. Our little darling Henrietta passed away during the 1st Isolation 14th April 2020. She had a recurrence of cancer that came back very aggressively & went down within days. ... From the moment we adopted our Hennie from her profile picture in the pound we were in love. She certainly had spunk- loved people, belly rubs, chasing cars pulling on her lead, snoring & getting so hot from under the bed covers! Her life was a happy one & she lived with another Dog called Rusty initially then Coco. She grew to be old and walked that little bit slower and would let us know when she had enough of us! Either kids being too loud or us too close to her lying down on the floor. Her personality was huge although she was only a little dog. She was our beloved pet, furkid. Miss her every day... will always remember our Hennie and all that she brought to our Family. #VicDRG #VictorianDogRescue #animalrescue #savinglives #adopt #secondchances #nonprofit #dogrescue #notashelter #volunteers #instadog #rescuedogsofinstagram #happytails #adoptdontshop #adoptadog

01.01.2022 Are you a good hugger? Billy is looking for a special someone who is fond of cuddles and happy to be kissed by this furry little face. This is one sweet and smoochy boy. While Billy loves humans and affection, he is still quite frightened of loud noises and wary of the world. He has become accustomed to general household noises but is startled by sounds outside the house or unexpected loud noises. He needs a calm home where he can settle in over time and become the confident ...cat he so desperately wants to be. Billy is looking for someone with cat experience who leads a quiet, calm life. He is a sweet and docile young boy who just needs a safe home, a reliable human and a lot of kisses. Billy has some scars and we think he may have lost his home and been a stray before he ended up in the pound. As a result he is fiv positive. 01.01.2022 Who Am I? I am not from Helsinki, nor am I a Russian Blue, but I do have the beautiful coat that would be needed in those climates. Who am I? My name is Helsinki, and I am a handsome, 15-month-old, de-sexed male, who has a luxurious, medium coat and I am technically called a white and blue cat. My start to life has been a bit rocky, however, I have a friendly disposition and a positive attitude and I am looking forward to a new start. 01.01.2022 Fernando came from Mildura Pound in 2007. We can't say enough how rewarding it is to see them going so well after so long. And if anyone is reading this who participated in those early runs Mildura to Melbourne for our Drought Dogs thank you SO much. "Fernando is doing well, enjoying his daily walks and adventures. He must be close to 14yrs old so starting to slow down a bit, enjoys a sleep in these days and is more white in his face but as handsome as ever. Fernando is a lovely dog with a gentle nature.
