24.01.2022 1 in 3 adults in Fiji are diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, and many more are undiagnosed. The Fijian death rate from this disease is the highest in the world. VicHerbs Committee member Erin Keane and fellow naturopath Sophie Buchinger are heading to Fiji in June this year to help support local communities in their fight against Diabetes. "By providing access to health care, education and nutritional support, there is so much we can do to help. Our mission is to join a team o...f health professionals in a dynamic diabetes prevention project. We will be providing as many free health checks and educational workshops as possible." Erin and Sophie have been overwhelmed by the support so far and have reached 75% of their fundraising goal to go ahead with this project. If you are in the position to donate you can do so via the link below. Every little bit helps, and any funds raised on top of their goal will be donated to local Fijian communities. https://chuffed.org/proj/help-us-to-fight-diabetes-in-fiji

07.01.2022 NEXT THURSDAY: How to reduce your carbon footprint by using local herbs As clinically trained herbalists we tend to rely on retailers rather than our environment for our supply of herbal medicines. While it is unrealistic to rely solely on wildcrafted herbs in today’s clinical setting, there are things we can do to reduce our carbon footprint by supplementing our existing stock with local and under utilised herbs. We will be looking at some common locally available plants ...that can used more frequently in place of exotic imported herbs. Join Heidi Merika's online presentation next Thursday 26th November at 7:45pm, it is one to not miss! Your ticket will also provide you optional access to our VicHerbs end of year online celebrations including trivia and some fun prizes, starting at 7pm. Hope to see you there!
