25.01.2022 Can you believe this challenge has under TWO WEEKS TO GO?!? The leaderboard might not have shifted too much, but we are inching so close to our national goal of 500 and we need your help! Book in before October 31st to help us get there! Perhaps you've never thought of donating platelets or maybe you don't even know what they are, so here's some quick and speedy answers for you! Platelets are a type of blood cells which are essential to form blood clots and therefore preven...t bleeding. Platelets are frequently transfused to patients undergoing treatment for cancer, are having surgery or are bleeding following a trauma. If you are a male and would like to see if you can be a platelet donor, then why not discuss with one of the Lifeblood staff members at your next donation to see if you’re eligible. Just remember, every donation, no matter what blood group you are and what type of donation you give, it is just as important as another. Happy Donating! A massive milestone for all the donors and supporters involved, with over 1500 lives saved! <3 Here is our very last live tally update for the 2020 challenge! 20.01.2022 The Australian Red Cross Blood Service is desperately seeking 5,000 O- blood donations over the next fortnight, as winter has resulted in many regular donors being knocked out by cold and flu - and reserves are at their lowest point of the year. 19.01.2022 Prolonged restrictions getting you down? Lifeblood has a compromise for you, group bookings are still running Victoria-wide meaning that you can donate at the same time as your fellow unit members, friends or family (while of course adhering to social distancing restrictions). Group bookings are really easy to make and mean that you can secure appointment times before you have assigned fellow unit members (etc.) to each appointment time. Were all about saving as many lives as possible, so we definitely encourage whole blood donations should plasma donations not be for you! The only difference is that some awards at the conclusion of the challenge revolve around plasma donations while others include all forms of donations, but more to come on the awards in due time! Organ and tissue donation involves removing organs and tissue once someone has passed away (a donor) and transplanting them into someone who may be very ill or dying (a recipient)....
