21.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE 19 November 2020 #3 Good Afternoon Families and Staff We are very mindful of adhering to the principle of keeping as many people out of community circulation as possible for the 6-day hard lockdown.... We had 2 students attend the site today (8:50am 3:15pm). If no students arrive onsite, please be advised the school will closed and the skeleton staff assigned will return home. In this situation, families will be notified through our regular Facebook, School Stream, Day Map and the school website www.vhhs.sa.edu.au. Monday and Tuesday are Student Free Days for staff to prepare for remote / online learning from home. Please note packages of hard copy materials will not be delivered or able to be collected by families on these days. There will be a skeleton staff on site Monday and Tuesday if students do attend but no set learning will take place on these days. Stay Safe Amanda O’Shea Principal

07.01.2022 World Teachers’ Day The teachers (& ancillary staff) at VHHS work hard and diligently with our students to ensure they are exposed to and practice the skills, capabilities and knowledge they will need for their futures. A 2019 Monash University study which found that while 82% of the public felt teachers were respected and 93% of the public felt that teachers were trusted, only 29% of teachers felt that the Australian public appreciated them. Similarly, the 2018 OECD Teachin...g and Learning International Survey (TALIS) shows only 45 per cent of Australian teachers in low-SES secondary schools believe that the teaching profession is valued by society. World Teachers’ Day (today) is the perfect opportunity to show our teachers how incredibly valued they are

Alternatively, you may access learning through the Learning SA site which can be found on the Department for Education website Any relevant changes to this information will be published for families through our regular Facebook, School Stream, Day Map and the school website www.vhhs.sa.edu.au. I am waiting on clarification from Department for Education on many matters and will post information about the Presentation Event and the year 7 Transition event mid next week. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank the skeleton staff who have supported both the smooth running of the school and the 1 or 2 students who attended the site. 05.01.2022 2020 Mayors’ Short Story Challenge Winners Announced! The talents of young writers from across the region were celebrated during the 2020 Mayors’ Short Story Challenge. An initiative of Alexandrina Council, City of Victor Harbor and District Council of Yankalilla, the challenge is about encouraging school aged children from reception to year 10 to let their imaginations run wild and share stories through creative writing.... This year, there were 474 entries from Alexandrina Council, 460 from the City of Victor Harbor and 102 from District Council of Yankalilla. Shortlisted entrants and winners of the 2020 Mayors’ Short Story Challenge were announced at a variety of in-school celebrations held throughout August and September. Mayors and library staff attended a number of schools to present awards and to recognise the talented work of all the entrants. Individual category winners received a $50 book voucher, and the overall winner from each council area received an additional Mayor’s prize of a $50 book voucher. The school from which each overall winner attends also received $1000 from their local council. Unlike other years where an overall presentation evening was held at a library within the region, the mayors from each council met with each school to present the awards. In presenting the awards, the mayors from each council praised the children who took up the challenge and demonstrated their creative writing skills. They also thanked the three public libraries for their coordination of the Mayors’ Short Story Challenge and school principals, librarians, teachers and student service officers who played a key role in encouraging their students to enter and showcase their talents. The prizes were provided by the respective councils and ‘Friends of the Library’ groups. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2020 Mayors' Short Story Challenge Winner, City of Victor Harbor, Year 8 to Year 10. Angie Vale, Year 10, Victor Harbor High School.

01.01.2022 Dear Families, In regards to our up and coming Presentation event, we empathise with families in relation to the level of restrictions placed on family attendance. Please be assured that as a site we have researched and investigated numerous options. The current plan enables us to still celebrate the achievement of our students while maintaining and working within the guidelines of both SA Health and Department for Education.... As the current COVID situation emerges in SA, we will continue to monitor and communicate what may or may not be possible. We are grateful for your understanding in these challenging times.
01.01.2022 COVID-19 parent letter Dear parent/caregiver, Today the Premier announced a 6 day statewide lockdown starting at midnight tonight (Wednesday 18 November) through to midnight Tuesday 24 November.... Only the children of essential workers and vulnerable children will be able to attend school or preschool / child care. A skeleton staff will provide supervision but not a learning program for the remainder of this week. If your child needs to attend, we will be here for them. All students have been asked to take home school laptops/devices, books and anything they need to continue their learning from home. More information on learning programs will be provided early next week, as we work our way through the new COVID-19 Directions. All South Australians are making sacrifices to ensure our community remains as safe as possible. We appreciate that this is a significant undertaking for you and your family. Your child’s teacher, our support staff and I are here to support you where we can. Regards, Principal/Preschool Director
