Winners will be announced at the Awards Night held during History Week in October. Usually held at Arts Centre Melbourne, this year the event will be on Zoom. 17.01.2022 ZOOM PLAY READING - ELTHAM LITTLE THEATRE SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17, 7:30 PM See below for a link to the event.... In preparation for an anticipated return to live theatre in 2021, Eltham Little Theatre is holding a reading of the play chosen to fill the Season 2 slot: Peter Colley's I'll be Back Before Midnight. This will be a read-through only and will have no bearing on casting the play. A director has not yet been selected and so prospective directors and auditionees are encouraged to attend. Even if you have no intention of joining the production, you are welcome to attend - to read or to listen. In line with current circumstances, this reading will be conducted as a Zoom meeting. 16.01.2022 VALE PADDY BROBERG FAMDA’s esteemed Life Member, musical director, friend and mentor Paddy Broberg passed away 1 October 2020 following a long battle with cancer. Paddy died peacefully surrounded by her family at home on Phillip Island. Paddy's funeral will be held on Thursday 8th October at 2.00 p.m. and will be live-streamed. A link to the live-streaming will appear on the Handley & Anderson website prior to the day of the funeral.... Paddy’s professional career as teacher, university lecturer and arts practitioner spanned more than thirty years. Her main areas of expertise were music, dance, literature and interdisciplinary arts, particularly music theatre, ranging from revues to opera. Special musical interests included composing and arranging, accompanying and choral direction. Fortunately Paddy and her husband, Norm, decided to retire in Foster and South Gippsland became the beneficiary of her expertise when she joined FAMDA in 1995 as joint musical director of The Music Man. She was a performer in Chinamen in Cabaret, and musical director of the award winning productions of Annie and Oliver!, and of the 2004 Music Hall. In 2006 she was a cast member in Oedipus Rex and arranger and musical director for Ebenezer’s Dream. She composed the musical score for the multi-arts project Fire Up!, original songs for Edwin Coad’s one-act musical, Open Call, and Paul Hendry’s pantomime, Twisted Tales from the Woods. Paddy was the musical director of the Prom Coast Singers from its inception in 1998 until 2013. She introduced the choir to many and varied works from the choral repertoire, ranging from simple rounds to major works such as Fauré’s Requiem, and covering songs and musical styles from many different countries, both past and contemporary. Paddy was awarded life membership of FAMDA in 2007.

03.01.2022 Iso-theatre from Peridot! Play reading this Wednesday. Despite the unique challenges of the lockdown restrictions of recent months, Peridot Theatre successfully completed a course for aspiring playwrights, run by Michael Olsen.... Two plays resulting from this course have now been readied for presentation as Zoom play readings. The second of these will be presented this Wednesday, September 23 at 7:30 PM. Please contact Alison at [email protected] at least 2 days in advance of the session if you wish to nominate yourself for a speaking role or to attend as an audience member. 01.01.2022 MALVERN & PERIDOT THEATRE COMPANIES’ SHORT PLAY COMPETITION 2020 ‘HAPPY ENDINGS’ Peridot are delighted to announce this short play competition in collaboration with Malvern Theatre Company. We’re looking for short play scripts that meet the following criteria: 1. The theme of the project is ‘Happy Endings’ the script can have intrigue, humour, surprise ending etc., but must have a genuinely positive outcome.... 2. Up to 12 minutes performance time 3. Between 2 and 4 characters. No monologues. 4. Minimal use of props, to suit online recording format. 5. To be submitted by Friday October 30th as an attachment in standard WORD format emailed to [email protected] A small panel of script readers comprising representatives from both Companies will choose the 10 most suitable plays for Zoom recording, which meet the above guidelines. Successful plays will be recorded by mid-December for release on YouTube in late December. Peridot and Malvern will organise Directors, and cast the plays. The Directors will be responsible for rehearsing, prior to recording, which will be facilitated by Malvern Theatre Company
