20.01.2022 Hi everyone! Some of you may have been wondering why we havent posted any information about this months event, or why it wasnt on the first week of the month! Truth be told, our whole committee have been busy bees, and couldnt find the time to run one. But fear not - a VSN event will be coming to you later this month. Keep the 26th of October free, and join in on a round table dinner discussion with a special knowledgable guest. More information to come very soon!

20.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who came to our Mental Health Nursing event! Incredible stories, both emotional and educational, were shared and really gave the attendees an insight into the rewarding experience that is mental health nursing. Some of the key points we took away from the night are: - How patients come to find themselves in a mental health ward, and the multiple steps and conversations it takes to get there... - Changes and advancements in the mental health area, pointedly rapid acceleration of knowledge in recent years. This includes societies perception of what a mental health issue is, how it presents itself, and how it should be treated (including medication and seclusion). - A shift in the traditional medical model from Medication Based to Consumer Centered. This means a change from straight textbook diagnoses and medication based assessments to a much more open, flexible assessment that is based on the patients feelings and thoughts. - Tips for building trust, relationships and avenues of communication with your patients, and the skills that acute nurses can build on that are focuses of the mental health sector. - Supports and assistance to ensure that mental health nurses feel safe and happy in their jobs, despite any negative experiences. - Student nurses attitudes towards mental health nursing. This information helped our attendees to get a much fuller picture of the mental health sector, and what to expect should they pursue a career in it. Overall one of the main take away points is that making Illness Into Wellness is rewarding on so many levels, and knowing that your work has turned someones life entirely around is a feeling like no other.

19.01.2022 Hi VSNers! We realise weve bit a quiet on the home front for the last couple of months, and for that we do apologise - and thank you for sticking with us! Over the last couple of years weve been dedicated to giving student nurses the support, information and conversation about how best to excel in their studies, and how to stay happy and healthy. Weve been doing this alongside universities themselves, hosting nights at a variety of campuses and meeting students from all ...across the state. Its been a ball, weve loved it, and we hope you have too. However, one of the greatest things about VSN is that were an independent organisation - we dont have to follow the rules because we havent got any! This year, we want to expand into exploring topics that you wouldnt usually get to hear or talk about in class. Whether it be the argument surrounding immunisations, ongoing discrimination in hospitals, or the morality of euthanasia, we want to explore the medical and social world at large that student nurses live in. We cant wait to get stuck in, and planning is well under way for some upcoming events. We cant wait to see you there, and if theres anything that youre keen to hear about that would be a little out of place in a lecture, wed love to hear from you! See you all soon!

19.01.2022 Our special guest for our final event for 2016 has been announced - Dr Peter Drake, a general practitioner with 40 years of experience in general practice, and a special interest in illicit drug use. The open forum style dinner will allow members to ask him anything and everything - if youve ever had any questions, now is the time to have them answered!

18.01.2022 You keep hearing about these "professional standards" - and for very good reason! Theyre there for your safety and everyone elses, so make sure you brush up on them.

Here at VSN were busy organising our events for the next coming year, and we can definitely say that theres some incredible stuff coming up.This month, we wanted to cater to everyone who would love to be able to get some great student nursing information, but doesnt have the time or the means to make it to a meeting. Ple...ase welcome, The Resource Party! Lots of people have one or two online resources that are their go-tos when it comes to surviving as a student nurse. Whether its an e-book, an app, a website, or a forum; if its helped you pass a class, write an essay, find like-minded students or generally just kept you sane during your studying years, we want you to share it with everyone else in the VSN community! Post the link to your resource below in the comment section of this post, along with 50 words as to why you think its awesome. Check out other peoples resources, and if you think theyre helpful, give the comment a like! On the first Wednesday in August (AKA when the meetings usually take place) the top 5 most liked comments writers will go into a prize draw, and we will randomly select a winner for a $220 voucher for a car service at UltraTune! Make sure you share this post or tag your friends in it - the more Resources at our Party, the better!
