22.01.2022 VWL welcomes the Victorian Government's announcement of over $5.3 billion in funding to build 12,000 new homes across Victoria. VWL supports all action taken to invest in social housing and to assist those experiencing homelessness to access essential services. As recommended in VWL's recent submission to the Legislative Council of the Parliament of Victoria's legal and social issues committee in its inquiry into homelessness in Victoria, VWL would like to see further invest...ment into quality services (including integrated legal, health and social work) as well as prevention and early intervention strategies aimed at addressing the root causes of homelessness for women and children, including family and domestic violence. 05.01.2022 Being appointed as Vice President of the Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) is a hugely satisfying achievement for Molina Asthana. Not only does this make her the first Indian-born woman indeed the first Indian-born person to be elected to this position in the 162-year history of this institution, but it also marks the culmination of a long journey of 16 years, when as a new migrant, she was told she would struggle to get a job in Australia with her Indian qualifications and experience. Congratulations Molina!

This year the Legal Laneway Breakfast is raising funds for Igniting Change, an organisation that has been providing practical support during the COVID-19 pandemic to vulnerable community legal centre clients, prisoners re-entering the community and others without access to essential resources.
