20.01.2022 Australian Defence Veterans' Covenant The Australian Defence Veterans Covenant serves to recognise and acknowledge the unique nature of military service and the contribution of veterans and their families. The Covenant is supported by the Veterans Recognition Program, which includes the Veteran Card, lapel pin and oath. These provide the opportunity for Australians to identify veterans when they are not in uniform or wearing their medals, and offer respect to them and their family. Legislation enabling the Covenant passed Parliament on 22 October 2019. Distribution of Covenant packs to those who have already applied, including the oath and pin, can now begin. Follow this link to find out how to apply.

09.01.2022 We are proud to introduce a scheme that provides assistance dogs to veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Smart Pups Assistance Dogs an...d Dogs for Life - previously CSTDA have been announced as being selected to provide assistance dogs to our veterans with PTSD. Unlike pet or companion dogs, assistance dogs are specially trained to perform tasks that help their handler to achieve their clinical recovery goals. They are trained to meet the veterans needs, and veterans will be trained as a handler. Psychiatric assistance dogs can detect signs of distress in their handler and perform specific tasks to help ease those symptoms. For example, waking their handler experiencing a night terror, or nuzzling their handler to distract them from emotionally disabling symptoms. Veterans currently seeking treatment for PTSD are encouraged to speak to their mental health professional in regards to gaining access to an assistance dog, or for more information visit: www.dva.gov.au/health-and-we/rehabilitation/assistance-dogs

08.01.2022 General Angus Campbell, Chief of the Defence Force, has signed the Australian Defence Force Family Covenant. Since May 2009, when then Chief of the Defence Forc...e Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston officially launched it, the Covenant has been passed on to each incoming CDF, reaffirming the ADFs commitment to military families. Arranged in consultation with Defence Families of Australia, the Covenant articulates to Defence families how highly their contribution to the Defence Force is valued. It represents a commitment from Defence to work with ADF families, to consult with them, to listen to the concerns they raise, and to help them balance the demands of Service life with the needs of the family. There are three copies of the signed Covenant. One is held by Director General of the Defence Community Organisation. One is kept by Defence Families of Australia. The original is held by the office of the Chief of the Defence Force. #ADFfamilies #YourADF
