25.01.2022 Yesterdays trivia answers and brand new questions!

25.01.2022 Who am I? I'll come back in about 2 hours and add the initials to the comments.

25.01.2022 The Vines Road Community Garden encourage our local green thumbs to check out and hopefully get involved in 'Local Seeds' at www.localseeds.com.au. This is a marketplace where you can buy and/or sell seeds to encourage saving seeds, help preserve genetic diversity and give people access to seeds that are adapted to their local environment. Click on the link for more information

25.01.2022 *Back to (COVID Safe Summer) Business tomorrow* The main points as it pertains to Vines Road Community Centre: Masks are required indoors Masks are only required outdoors when you cannot distance (you must carry one with you at all times)... We must continue to keep records of visitors it is essential to controlling an outbreak if/when one happens We do not have any number caps or reductions in patronage, we still must adhere to the density quotient See more

25.01.2022 A girl in iso thinks strategically so we've deviated from the plan slightly but will return by the end of this week with chicken mince. Enjoy this beef strog video :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T25nJfJPXoU

23.01.2022 VRCC's AGM will proceed at the end of this month but it's going to be via Zoom. We will be providing Zoom training in the 1-2 weeks leading up to the meeting - for people attending and for anyone who wishes to participate. This is in the middle of being organised, depending on the tutor's availability and a separate event will be listed in the coming days. We hope to be able to see you on screen soon.

23.01.2022 We are taking things day by day at the Centre and doing our best to keep our community informed and calm. We have been communicating the restrictions on who cannot participate in our programs and activities at the Centre with our various user groups, staff, volunteers and contractors. In no uncertain terms:... - DO NOT attend VRCC if you have cold or flu symptoms. Stay home and recover. Seek medical help only if you need it. We have eased up on our usually strict cancelation policy at this time to grant as much flexibility as possible. - If you have arrived by plane from an international destination since midnight last night (Monday) you MUST self-isolate for a full 14 days. You must not be in the community - Thorough and frequent hand washing is the best way to prevent yourself from becoming ill. Another method of prevention is to practice social distancing; that is keeping your distance at least 1.5 meters from all other people and do not give anyone handshakes, kisses or hugs (except immediate family) - We will try our best to keep everyone informed of cancelations of events but your best bet is to contact your activity facilitator.

22.01.2022 Well - this is nerve-wracking. Ursula made a video about how to make potato bread on the weekend and next minute VRCC's hit You Tube We hope you like it and for those that make it through the full 30 minutes, don't forget to add your challenge. For those that don't watch, we'll post the challenge later https://youtu.be/tFG9Hdp3dro

22.01.2022 Here's an update from us about what we are doing at VRCC.

22.01.2022 That time that your State MP recognised the important work you do... And while we love a pat on the back sometimes, we throw it back onto our community. Without every single participant, every single visitor, every single volunteer, facilitator, activity leader and staff member, this place would not be the wonderful and vibrant place that it is. So thank you to the community for being just way you are!

21.01.2022 Update from us: - We have 3 months worth of work at least for our staff and the resources to do it. - We are doing office hours of 10am to 12pm every weekday for crisis information and general conversation if you're felling the pinch of isolation. Depending on the level of need in this area, we can always scale it up. - Ursula is going to *attempt* video delivery, being guided by her personal skills and interests at first...Is there anything in particular you'd like to see?

21.01.2022 YOUR INPUT REQUIRED!!! Ursula has gotten into the swing of cooking videos and is slowly banking content, and is confident that she can add at least one more program to the mix, so what would you like to see next? She has a few ideas which have been added to the survey, but please feel free to add your own. https://forms.gle/YDC1qvk4LdcYvHPA6

21.01.2022 New trivia and the answers from yesterday. Pics of the questions are in the comments.

18.01.2022 Are you interested in joining a Vines Road Community Centre #walktober team during October? All you'll have to do is register with us and record your steps walked between the 12th and the 23rd of October. Walk by yourself or as a group (up to as many as current restrictions allow). Record your steps using a tracking app, pedometer or 1000 steps per 10 minutes method. Please register your interest with us so we can get you the step logs. If we have lots of interest we can send staff and/or volunteers offsite to walk locations. Let us know via messenger or [email protected] Are any of the other Neighbourhood Houses taking up this challenge? Thank you to Leisure Networks for such a fantastic idea

17.01.2022 Dear Community, It is with a very heavy heart today that I announce that Vines Road Community Centre will be closing its office to the public as of Monday the 23rd of March in the spirit of social distancing. We have been going down the path of self-determination and having people make up their own minds but now the time has come to make the decision for you. ... I am suspending all VRCC programs as of Monday. I have informed the staff, I have stood down all of our volunteers and I am tackling the planning and brainstorming constantly. I am allowing existing activity to proceed all the way through to March 30th, after which time the centre will be closed to everyone except staff. The activity that is still proceeding is a tiny fraction of our usually vibrant community centre. If you are reading this and wondering what to do next, please contact your activity facilitator. If that's the centre, phone us tomorrow or Friday or message us via Facebook. As of tonight, here is a list of all activities that are confirmed CANCELLED: - BAPS - Storytime - The Music Space - Geelong Jazz Club - Sticky Fingers Cooking School - Vines Road Senior Citizen's Club - Line Dancing - Meniere's Disease Support Group - Latin Line Dancing - Ballroom Dancing - Hamlyn Heights Kyokushin Karate - WW - KF Dance - Australian School of Relaxation and Reflexology It is imperative that all of you take care of your mental health during this time because we will need you on the other side of this. Without the "busy-ness" or "preoccupation" of day to day life, some of us may struggle to keep afloat. Anxiety will be high and that is normal. Do not suffer in silence or alone. Reach out if you're not OK. Here is a fact sheet that is making the rounds from Beyond Blue: https://www.beyondblue.org.au//looking-after-your-mental-h I wish you all the best of health during these times of uncertainty and I will see you on the other other side of this. Best Regards, Ursula Irwin Neighbourhood House Coordinator

15.01.2022 NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. Learn more about the history of NAIDOC week on the NAIDOC website: https://www.naidoc.org.au/about/history

15.01.2022 How is remote learning going for you? Here is a snippet from yesterday of Ursula and her son, Nikola (grade prep) making a game out of his assigned maths task (practicing counting forwards and backwards - the cards were provided by his school. We did this 20 times, one for every card). Everyone's daily tasks are going to be different. If you have a proud homeschool moment and want to share it with other parents, send it to us, post it on our page or tag us in your uploads! #remotelearningcontent

14.01.2022 Vines Road Community Centre as a non-essential place of gathering will be closing its doors to its remaining activities as of noon tomorrow. Our coordinator has just sent out a mass-communication to the facilitators of these activities and while I hope that they will be able to get in contact with all of you by then, it may not be possible. Regrettably, you will be greeted with locked doors and a notice explaining the situation. We wish you the best of health during this time and we will bring more information as it comes to light.

14.01.2022 Hands up if you're anxious today You are not alone. Looking after your mental health during any crisis is absolutely imperative. #BeyondBlue has developed a tip sheet for doing just that during these uncertain times. Share this far and wide. ... https://www.beyondblue.org.au//looking-after-your-mental-h

13.01.2022 So the challenge is... Send me one or more ingredients to make a new meal from. What's in your pantry or freezer that you don't know what to do with or you're thinking "nooo, not again!" ? ... I've already identified cous cous as one of the few pasta-based ingredients still in good supply so that's going to be the next video.

13.01.2022 We are tackling coronavirus (and other pathogenic) anxiety here at the centre with an education campaign (Thanks to #DHHS for the resources). These posters will feature in our high traffic areas, such as the bathrooms. The key takeaways here are: - Wash your hands with soap and water often - If you have symptoms of cold or flu. Stay home. ... - If you're at home being quarantined, do not go out. Ask neighbours, friends or family to keep your supplies flowing. - If you do seek medical attention, alert the clinic ahead of your arrival so they can prepare. - Masks are only effective if you'e symptomatic, for healthy people they are ineffective. 12.01.2022 Panic-buyer's remorse? If you purchased from Woolworths you're not going to be able to obtain refunds on certain items, such as pasta, rice and sauces and of course that massive TP hoard unless the product is clearly faulty, contaminated or otherwise unsafe. Follow the link for a list of organisations in the Geelong region that work in food relief. If you're looking to declutter your doomsday bunker, these guys will get your excess food into empty stomachs across the region... : https://www.feedgeelong.org.au//up/pdf/Where-Can-I-Eat.pdf As for the toilet paper, consider donating it to your local Neighbourhood House, Community Centre, sporting club, church, or other small not-for-profit. They will appreciate the help reducing their operating costs and/or they will get it to those in greatest need. #noonedeservestogohungry #2kmealsaday #geelongfoodreliefcentre #foodbank #neighbourhoodhouses

11.01.2022 We are loving this blend of First Nations country titles and the Animaniacs/yakko's world melody. Happy NAIDOC week! If you're wondering how to better acknowledge the Indigenous history of Australia, start with these 2 questions:... - On which country were you born? - On which country do you live now? https://youtu.be/odFHrTFrgAI

09.01.2022 Northerly Aspects is a community newsletter that's circulated around Geelong's northern suburbs. 08.01.2022 Let's talk Indigenous art and creators; category is music and bands. It is always important to buy artistic products directly from the creator if that is an option but if not, an indigenous-owned distribution/ publishing organisation will do just fine. I was going to link to a You Tube Playlist with about 100 videos and audio on it but I'm not sure they will be compensated for the plays. Instead, here's the Wikipedia list of Indigenous Australian Musicians and Bands. Look... them up on your music streaming service! Do you have any favourite songs, artists or bands that also happen to be Indigenous Australian? Tell us about it below https://en.wikipedia.org//List_of_Indigenous_Australian_mu See more
