16.01.2022 Seems like some cool stuff is going on....

15.01.2022 Ego Lemos is playing a gig at Downs tomorrow... Get down there....

15.01.2022 As we are trying 'no dig' gardening, we have had some tarps donated to us. We are getting on to the advertising company to try and get some more from other campaigns. Thanks to Damo and Byron for helping spread them.

14.01.2022 http://www.urbanfarm.org/blog/podcast/ looks like some interesting ideas here ...

11.01.2022 Down's Estate Community Project sent three of the gardening team along to an energising course on Urban Farming. Regina, Robyn and Michael trained and trammed t...o Ceres in Brunswick, Melbourne. The "Street Farming Masterclass" course was open, honest and fast paced. Participants had many and varied backgrounds, and motives, but all were eager to learn from the best. Michael Ableman. Key take out points for our garden were: - establishing and maintaining a clear vision - establish the plan - place full value on soil fertility - pest and disease problems are minimised with good soil fertility practices - secure water and tenure of site - producing food is greatly enhanced by timing and growing seedlings. Lots of practical ideas to cross pollinate into the community garden. Michael emphasised: - understanding the origins of foods/ plants grown, to best suit conditions - an urban farm model would require a minimum 1/2 acre plot - honing in on 6 or 8 signature crops after community/market feedback, and do them well. At lunch, which was all grown on site and delicious, Regina used her well crafted social skills, and ensured Down's Estate had an opportunity to present as a case study for the class (and Michael to critique). Michael R, and Robyn did a presentation and we received buckets of advice and support. A nifty value-add by Regina and Robyn, saw them organise an email list for Urban Farm Networking across Victoria and beyond. A potent day had by all.

08.01.2022 Picnic, Walk & Talk @ Down’s Estate - Saturday, May 6, 2017 - 11.00 am-2:00 pm Opposite Frankston City Motorcycle Park The Frankston Community Food Fest takes p...lace during May and this year the Down's Estate Community Project can play a part! We obtained the licence and key on April 12, so this is our first official community event to which you are warmly invited. This low key, grassroots community fest is supported by Council and Peninsula Health. We can all explore various ways to create local food options, making local food more accessible and affordable - from the growing place to the plate. Importantly, we can share our knowledge, skills, passions and produce with our local community. Please look at the flyers for the whole Food Fest program and the individual flyer for the Down's Estate event. It is definitely a "BYO everything and take away everything you bring" picnic event - as sustainable as we can make it. Toilet, hand washing and first aid are provided, as well as good conversation and a joy in sharing this evolving story with our community. Please wear suitable gear for being at "The Farm". We hope the weather Gods smile upon us on Saturday and look forward to meeting you if you can make it. More information & detailed flyers of this & other Food Fest events: http://www.seafordcc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=330 PS. In our aim to be environmentally friendly, we will welcome you with streamers, not balloons. :-)

06.01.2022 What is really interesting to me is the broad range of skills and personalities we have in our community and the ability we have to work together to achieve something good. Well done everyone. Well done Frankston City Council.
