24.01.2022 Glaucoma What you need to know! 2 in 100 Australians will develop glaucoma in their lifetime. 50% of people with glaucoma don't know they have it.... 10x you are more likely to develop glaucoma if a direct relative has it. In certain types of glaucoma, you are 50% risk of passing it on to your offspring So, What is Glaucoma and why Should I get my eyes examined for it? Glaucoma: is usually caused by an increase in intraocular pressure (IOP) which can damage the optic nerve. This increased pressure for a prolong period of time causes progressive damage to the optic nerve and varies between people. Our eyes are amazing and they constantly produce a clear liquid called aqueous humor and this fluid helps t keep our eyes nourishes and holds the eye in shape. If there is issues with our eyes ability to produce, drain and repeat these steps, this can cause a higher Intraocular pressure in the eye which we know that over a period of time can start to damage the optic nerve Damage to the optic nerve can result in irreversible damage to your eyesight. This is why it is extremely important to have your eye Health examined regularly (every 12 months to 2 years) so early detection can occur! If you want more information on Glaucoma you can head over to https://glaucoma.org.au/what-is-glaucoma Or if are concerned about your own eye health please give us a call on 0418 310 820 or Shoot us a message to discuss further

It incorporates how our brain receives visual messages, its ability to retain them and ultimately apply meaning to them.
