24.01.2022 From 17 September, regional Victorians can again holiday in regional Victoria Ballarat included. This important third step in the Victorian Government's COVID-19 roadmap comes just in time for the start of the school holidays (19 September 4 October). So what does this mean for regional Victorians wanting to head to Ballarat for a long-awaited getaway or catch-up with family and friends?... Accommodation venues will reopen for regional guests. Cafes and restaurants will reopen for sit-down dining, with strict restrictions on social distancing. Gatherings of up to 10 people will be allowed outdoors. Two households will be able to form a 'bubble', meaning up to five members of one household can visit the other at home. 24.01.2022 #ThrowbackThursday Rower Viktor Ivanov was one half of the Russian duo that finished second in the coxless pairs event at Lake Wendouree during the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. After accidentally dropping his silver medal in the lake, Ivanov and some keen schoolboys dived into the water in search of it.... The medal was found near the pontoon later that day by Ballarat High School student Andrew Hemingway. After taking the medal to school the next day to show his friends, the 13-year-old returned the treasure to Ivanov at the Ballarat Town Hall. Ivanov rewarded the teenager with a box of Russian medals and dinner at the rowers’ mess hall.

21.01.2022 The school holidays just keep getting better in Ballarat following news Kryal Castle will reopen this weekend for locals and regional Victorians. The medieval tourist attraction's holiday operating hours are as follows: Saturday 19 September Monday 21 September... Friday 25 September Monday 28 September Friday 2 October Sunday 4 October Following this, Kryal Castle will be open every weekend from 10 October. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the castle's indoor attractions will remain closed, however outdoor activities will include archery, axe throwing, knights school, street theatre, skill at arms and the royal joust. 07.01.2022 Ballarat's The Pub With Two Names is returning to its original name The Highlander. The Mair Street bar and bistro will open on 1 October under new owners Christine Molloy and Richard McKeown (from the Farmers Arms Hotel Creswick). When it opened it 1858, the building was known as the Royal Highlander Hotel, a name it held for 100 years before changing to the Peter Lalor Hotel for the next 50 years. ... "We have transformed this massive building back to a glorious pub with amazing food focusing on in-house butchery and local produce," a post on The Highlander's Facebook page reads.
