At further inspection of Government imposed regulations/restrictions it makes things not viable for our restaurant to re-open for any dine-ins at this time. Queenslanders will be able to undertake unlimited travel, ...including overnight stays throughout the entire state, in a major easing of COVID-19 restrictions. More locals will be allowed in cafes, restaurants, pubs and clubs, with an increase in the number of patrons from 10 to 20. From noon on Friday, June 5, venues with more space will be allowed up to 20 people in each defined area if they follow an approved COVID Safe Industry Plan. Well done, Queensland. 06.01.2022 I have to admit, I've been laying low a bit the last few weeks as much as I can. I guess with everything 'opening up' a bit I felt I didn't need to be adding t...o the people buzzing around. I've ducked into Canungra township a few times on the weekends to see what was happening and checked in with businesses on how they are doing, but generally have tried to stay home or in the office. Yesterday, I ventured up to Lamington National Park for what I hope was the first of many bush walks. I've wanted to do the Border Track walk (which is currently closed) for many years and I'm hoping 2020 might be the year I finally do it, so the Box Forest Circuit (10.9km, Grade 4 walk) yesterday was the beginning of my training. I don't have much of a sense of direction so when I say 'training', it is as much about following maps/signage as it is about fitness. My 15 year old daughter was roped in to walk with me - and she's a great walking companion! We arrived up at the O'Reilly's Retreat car park around 10am and checked the map, messaged some friends to say where we were headed (in case we got lost). There was a mix of people up there, some families feeding the birds and doing the tree top walk, and some serious walkers with stick things and everything! I wasn't sure how I'd go, admittedly about 200m in I thought, bloody hell I'm bored, how am I going to walk 10km? But the beauty of the rainforest soon had me and I remember a feeling of peace coming over me as we got a little more off the beaten track. There is something about being amongst trees that have existed for centuries that is good for our souls, or certainly good for mine. Box Forest Circuit goes past a number of stunning waterfalls. My favourite was Box Log Falls - you have to deviate a little off the Circuit to see the Falls, it is a little hidden grotto that is well worth seeing. I think the reason I liked it was that it was so unexpected - when I followed the sign it just looked like a heap of rocks around the corner. At about the 8km mark I thought we might have to call the helicopter in to winch me out but I got a second wind and felt pretty good in the last couple of km - finished strong I guess you could say! The Cafe and Gift Shop at O'Reilly's Retreat is open now and the Retreat reopens on 12 June for accommodation - as will a lot of the camping and accommodation venues around Canungra. There are plenty of picnic spots near the Retreat or of course you can always time your walk around having lunch in Canungra!
