25.01.2022 More than 6,100 older Australians will live independently for longer with our $325.7 million investment in new home care packages.

25.01.2022 WATCAC is inviting all of WA's tandem cycling community to a tandem muster at Point Belches, South Perth on Saturday 21 November, between 8am and 11am. This inaugural muster event is being held with the support of the Minister for Road Safety and the WA Road Safety Commission. We would be delighted if you could come to our event! With your support we're looking forward to a fabulous morning. We’re hoping to meet other cyclists and showcase tandem cycling in the broader com...munity, while promoting road safety for all road users. We are counting on the support of the WATCAC's members and friends to make this a fun, community event. If you know people interested in tandem cycling please bring them along. A wide range of tandems will be displayed, including road bikes, track bikes, mountain bikes and tourers. In particular we'd love you to join the morning's conversation over a coffee and share the experience and joy of safe cycling on a tandem. Compared to motor vehicles, cyclists are amongst the most vulnerable road users. This event provides the opportunity for WATCAC to advocate for safe cycling and to raise awareness of cycling road safety. Our media profile and 'Share The Road' messaging will be part of raising community awareness of road safety for cyclists. We will be calling on all road users to share the roads and give cyclists the space we need. The road safety messaging being promoted at the event is made possible through funding from the Road Trauma Trust Account, as part of National Road Safety Week. Event Program 8am-11:30am - Coffee Cart Service (First 100 Coffee's are free) 8am-10:30am - Bike Display and community catch up/ Chat 9:30am-9:45am - Official Welcome 11am- Group Ride for media and disperse 11am to 11:30am - Pack up For more information, please visit https://watcac.org/events/tandemonium/ or look for Tandemonium on Facebook https://fb.me/e/26XOiDLsX

14.01.2022 The Census 2021 - Media Statement from Deaf Australia For the first time, the National 2021 Census will refer to Auslan as a language option. This is a major win for the Deaf Community in their struggle to have Auslan users recognised in the population. Deaf Australia has been working with the Australian Bureau of Statistics since 2007 to address the issue of adding Auslan as one of the language options. See Auslan video:... https://deafaustralia.org.au/media-release-census-2021/ Deaf Australia had attempted to amend the 2011 and 2016 Censuses without success. The Deaf Community conducted massive campaigns for its members to write down Auslan in the If other, please write option in both Censuses. Despite this, Deaf Australia views that previous data collected is not reflective of the actual numbers of Auslan users in Australia. This was due to the limited reach of the campaigns and many Auslan users still unaware they could write it as an other language. The National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreting has stated that Auslan interpreting is third highest language provision behind Arabic and Mandarin (Chinese) languages in Australia. Despite this and based on the Census 2016 Auslan is ranked 44th as an other language and as such does not warrant a significant profile as the top 5 languages. Statistics show Auslan was first recorded in the 2001 Census. Since then, every Census has noted a significant increase of Auslan users. In 2001 Auslan users numbered 5,306. This increased to 11,682 in 2016. In the 2021 Census, the question asking Does (person) use a language other than English at home? the prompt question in the other language will state, If other, for example, Auslan, please write here. Speaking about the Census 2021 new language option, Deaf Australia Chairperson, Todd Wright, said, The inclusion of Auslan as a prompt in the other language option is a significant win for the Deaf Community. This will make it easier for us to determine more accurately the number of Auslan users in Australia enabling us to work more effectively towards greater participation, awareness and addressing the communitys needs.
