22.01.2022 Greetings dear reader, It's been a while since i've put fingers to keyboard for an elongated post but today is the day. I'm going to talk to you about a subject very dear to me, Amateur Radio. And more specifically the lack of decisive representation we amateur radio operators get from our so called representative body The Wireless Institute of Australia. But a bit of history first. The Wireless Institute of Australia ( WIA ) was started back in 1910 at a meeting of a few lik...Continue reading

13.01.2022 An end of an era as today the announcement of the WIA no longer being responsible for management of Amateur radio examinations and callsign recommendations in Australia. This responsibility has now been passed to the University of Tasmania's Marine College, who have been conducting examinations for marine communications for many years. We can only wait and see what will now happen. Will WIA Assessors be used under the new scheme? Will the cost of exams go up?... Will the WIA continue as a peak body or will RASA take over that position ? These and many more questions are still to be answered and asked. See more

02.01.2022 The VK3RWO Wires-X Repeater is currently in test operation on 438.600Mhz -7.00Mhz offset. Press your X button on your C4FM radio to activate the Wires-X netwo...rk. If your accessing by FM Analog the system requires a CTCSS Tone of 123.00 and has a Recieve TSQL tone of 123.00 also to avoid analog users having to hear digital transmissions. The link antenna system has been installed at the VK2BFC QTH for the Node connection and has been operating fault free with a reasonable footprint for over 2 months. The next step is to install a shutdown /restart board manufactured by Matt VK3VS and install the Yaesu DR-2X Repeater at our site on Balkd Hill. The repeater has an output of 50W and even during testing at the vk2bfc qth it has been heard as far out as table top hume weir west wodonga and howlong. So once its on the hill we should have some spectacular coverage. The clubs thanks go to Ross at Strictly Ham who arranged an $1100 discount for the club repeater and has been enormously helpful during our install phases. The repeater has been supplied by Frank VK2BFC for club use and will remain in the club site under the same conditions as our other repeaters. So if you have a C4FM radio give it a try, we have our own room #69712 but during the day maintain a link to AUS-REPEATER-NET 24160. Hope to hear you on the Wires-X network.
