25.01.2022 On Sunday we held our ESS practical training. This involved training with flares, fire extinguishers, launching and flipping a life raft and working a life jacket in the water. These skills are essential for a VMR Crew Member and are extremely handy for all vessel owners. If you are unsure of safety equipment, expiry dates or need any information dont hesitate to call us.

24.01.2022 Ben from Firecom dropped by today and checked over our fire extinguishers, fire hoses and fire blankets. Thanks to Ben and Firecom, our volunteers and assets remain protected and safe. We’re glad Ben keeps us up to date with the regular inspections as we found a faulty extinguisher. Just shows even a new looking extinguisher isn’t proof that it will work.... All the crew at VMR Currumbin support the idea that all boaties and jet skiers should check their vessels (and homes) for compliant fire fighting equipment.

22.01.2022 Thanks to Volunteer Marine Rescue Jacobs Well for hosting our combined zone meeting on the weekend. It is great to be closely affiliated with our fellow VMR operators, leading a great future for VMR Queensland

22.01.2022 "This reminds us of the importance of safety equipmentthese guys were wearing life jackets, had flares and a registered beacon on board. A registered beacon meant we knew who we were looking for, we were able to call their nominated contacts to confirm their whereabouts and task rescue crews to find them quickly. Check your beacon battery and update your registration before you next head out on the water. Visit www.beacons.amsa.gov.au" AMSA

14.01.2022 This turtle, affectionately named 'Alf' by our crew, needed some assistance on Tuesday. Alf was found by a member of the public, and our guess is that he had po...ssibly had a run in with a boat.. He was brought to our base, and our duty crew contacted the Sea World Research, Rescue & Conservation Foundation who came down and collected Alf with haste. We all have our fingers crossed for Alf! Sea World did say they would keep us updated on his condition, so we will aim to provide a follow up if we can! Alf's case is a timely reminder to slow down and keep a proper lookout, not just for other vessels and people, but our precious marine life that share our waterways with us. If you do see a marine animal in distress, contact the base and our duty crew will be able to put you in touch with the right people to assist. Thanks to Josie and the other members of Purple A crew for the photos, and for their excellent response!

01.01.2022 VMR Currumbin is landlocked for longer and longer everyday. This trend will continue unless the annual dredging campaign is brought forward or we can source funding for a vessel that will be able to handle low water on the Currumbin Bar. Twice this last weekend we handed over calls for assistance because the bar was too shallow for our current vessel to negotiate. The emotion of feeling helpless is more pronounced this year than it has been for a long time. ... We are grateful for the support of everyone at our fund raising BBQs. While we are busily working to raise funds for a smaller, shallow water vessel to assist in a lightning quick response time; we are still searching for increased State funding.
