23.01.2022 Stuart Davis-Meehan, the manager at Mornington Communication Information & Support Center, recently thanked Volpino for providing cooked meals to people doing it tough in the Mornington area. Locals go to the centre looking for support, usually in terms of food or financial assistance - and for the first time the centre has been able to provide people with cooked meals. Stuart says they have been *very* well received. Thank you to everyone who has donated since April to make ...this program possible. With this current lockdown, the need locally is increasing and we would dearly love to continue this important program. Our current funding will see out August. 22.01.2022 TUNE IN TONIGHT David will be on ABC News tonight (7pm), delivering food to Willum Warrain Aboriginal Association in Hastings. He doesnt have a speaking part but the segment shows where some of these important meals have been going on the Peninsula. On Friday, David delivered another 100 meals to Mornington Community Information & Support Centre and Western Port Community Support Centre. The meals this week were a delicious Bolognese Penne and a Pork Belly ...Pilaf (yum!). Big thanks to @morningtonprimecuts for donating the meat and to Bendigo Bank Mt Martha for donating another $5,500 over the last few weeks to keep this program going. 05.01.2022 The Volpino team is heartbroken at the death of our friend Stefano Avanzi. Stef was a long time employee at both Volpino and David's former restaurant Ciao Bella where he worked as Pizzaola extraordinaire. Stef loved life. He was the centre of any party, a fantastic dancer who loved nothing more than to 'rip it up' on the D-floor. Besides making pizza and dancing, Stef's other overwhelming passion in life was football. He would turn up to work looking dishevelled a...nd exhausted after staying up all night to watch the Serie A and his beloved Genoa. Stef was instrumental in Volpino winning Best Pizza in Victoria in 2016. He had great pride in his work and his sense of satisfaction with the award was plain to see. Every winter the Weill family would have a night with Stef where we could cook his favourite dish, Cotechino with Lentils. He would talk about his family back home and reminisce about growing up in Italy. Though none of us could ever sleep after those rich dinners, it was worth it - just to see how happy Stef would be (and how much one skinny Italian fella could eat)! When Stef was diagnosed with MND, we were all heartbroken. He remained remarkably positive, something that remained with him until the end. The saddest part about the dreadful condition was that Stef was embarrassed by his inability to help himself. Sadly, this and the fact he moved further away meant we didn't get to see as much of Stef towards the end as we would have liked. Stef's passing has left a hole that will not be filled and a sadness that cannot be described. We will treasure the memories of his happiness and his cheeky smile forever. Farewell Stef! See more
