10.01.2022 From discussions with our training director Lance Collins: We define obedience fundamentals as SIT ATTENTION AUTOMATICALLY STRAIGHT & CLOSE... DOWN STAND HERE HOLD OUT We train in 3 stages. MOTIVATION PROOF SECURE We know from experience that postponing proofing of the components as they are introduced to the dog causes the dog confusion and drama later when the dog is exposed to distractions and the handler tries to enforce. We know from experience that proofing each component as it is introduced in the training process minimizes the confusion the dog experiences and reduces the drama that eventually comes when the handle tries to improve reliability and precision. Precision, reliability and positive expression are not conflicting objectives. They are an absolutely achievable Solid fundamentals are the key to high performance. We continually go back and resecure the fundamentals. They are the foundation of every thing we ask the dog to do. Motivation comes first in the learning process and it is a key part of all training moving forward. It never stops. PROOFING is introduced after the motivational phase and continues as the training moves forward. It never stops and needs to fair and consistent. It requires handler vigilance.

08.01.2022 So back in 2014 I invested in a kuranda dog bed after seeing how indestructible they were at the dog kennels at work. I was sick and tired of buying dog bed covers that would last a week if I'm lucky. Tried so many different brands. Even used a sheet of ply wood screwed to the frame at one stage. All failed....... Well almost 6 years later this beauty is still intact! I've had a number of working dogs give it their best go but all give up trying in the end.... Seriously, if you are wanting a dog bed that truly survives the test of time then this is the one for you! A worth while investment when you add up the cost of dog bed covers week in week out. I'll post a "latest" photo of it next post.

04.01.2022 6 years on and still no holes or damage. Worth every cent.

04.01.2022 Very good article about a dogs mood while tracking.

01.01.2022 High or low tail?? When it’s discussing judging and points around the world I usually get many questions ... It comes to a point when I feel that it simply m...ay be enough, I have said this before and I say it again, Please don’t put your time and energy on evaluate a dogs legs, tail, ears or what ever!! Try to read the dogs behave, try to read the dogs reaction and THE DOG RELATION TO THE HANDLER!!! THE DOG RELATION TO THE WORK!!! A dog who track with low tail, is not necessarily under pressure! A dog who track with high tail, need not be disobedient, careless or too free! As a judge you must see the dogs general condition A dog who are under pressure shows avoidance behave, Looking around for a way to escape, Licking intensive the lips, Try to give self calmness tactile touch, Stress with dandruff all or part of the coat, Uncertainty and distance-seeking look, This togheter with a low tail during example obedience, tracking aso are disqualified and shall be punished with low or no points... The location of the tail depends on the: Breed, age, sex, training, relation to the handler, focus, concentration aso... Have any one of you see a male dog sniffing on a female in heats urine, with a high tale? I have not! In the same moment the dog feel the urine he run to the spot, lowers the tail and start to evaluate the liquid!! IS THIS DOG UNDER PRESSURE? IS THIS DOG AFRAID? Come on, NO HE IS NOT!!! Can we stop this discussion now? Please, please Look at the video... Yes the tail is low The dog loves to track, he love to start and he is maximum focus... Is this dog under pressure???
