25.01.2022 I have been asked why I pay the extra for Velcro brand hook and loop dots, its a really simple answer, they work the best!!! I have used dots from supermarkets, dollar stores, eBay... and the one thing they all have in common is that the adhesives fail. The amount of repetitive force these little visuals take is actually quite astounding, and after product testing in house for the past five years the lessons I have learned boil down to this... Dont skimp on your sticky do...ts. Dont skimp on your laminating pouches. I adore deliveries, I get to talk to another adult AND they give me stuff Also well played online stationery store, you had me at jelly babies. #visuals #velcro #autismsupports #deliveryday #jellybaby

25.01.2022 Here are the top four most used visuals this week, how about at your house?

24.01.2022 The picture no mother wants to see, and I am grateful that my Alex has learned how to read how his body feels enough to tell me when something is wrong. Having a cold is a pretty miserable thing, weve not had a lot of fun these holidays .

20.01.2022 Sorry weve been quiet! Currently in the two steps back phase of the great autism cha-cha. All this glorious warm weather has sparked a dinner request, Bug LOVES coleslaw, its so nice to know that dinner will be a win before you cook it! Thank you little pictures!!!

20.01.2022 Last year Alex would come and stand with me as I made his lunch, he would tell me what he wanted for every snack or meal. This year sadly we have lost that little bit of verbal communication, so I made PECS images for his standard options, they have been a game changer! Bonus is he actually eats what I pack, winning. This kid though, he will no touch jelly with a 10ft pole... garlic dip on the other hand, no dramas. #visual #visualsupports #languagedelay #autism #choice #independence #opinionsmatter

18.01.2022 Bug has spoken, he thought that destroying the visual for Tuesdays school day that he wouldnt have to go

17.01.2022 Happy Saturday everyone! Hows your day looking? #vox #visualschedules #autismsupports

16.01.2022 Happy Queens Birthday long weekend to you all! (Even though Alex and the queen share her actual birthday). What do you all have planned for today?

08.01.2022 This is how it all began, all for the love of a boy. When you have a child who cannot tell you even the simplest want, need or desire you will do ANYTHING you can to make life easier. As a designer I think in pictures, it made sense when our speech pathologist recommended using the PECS (picture exchange communication system) with our little guy, and I had the skill set to make it happen. Our PECS needs have changed over the past five years, we have moved from very specific... big toddler friendly pictures to smaller routine based images. Our visuals have helped us avoid meltdowns, provide reassurance around when things happen and with whom, and most importantly they gave my Alex a voice (he even uses that voice to have PECS arguments ) #onethousandwords #autism #PECS #visualschedule #vox

06.01.2022 Aside from visual supports, our other main method of helping Bug regulate are sensory supports. Today I made him what he is calling a cubby and I am calling the uterus. Its an old piece of Lycra from one of his hammocks that was too stretched to be safe (or fun) anymore. Im always hesitant to introduce new sensory items, get him on the wrong day and its an instant negative association. After watching him squeeze himself between his crash mats all morning I had a pretty good feeling about introducing this one today. Whats your little ones favourite sensory go to?

03.01.2022 Its Sunday so the weeks visuals prepped and ready to go. We (Alex) has massive anxiety over the week, so as well as his laminated schedule on the kitchen wall he also has a print out he can carry with him. The placement may seem random, but its very intentional and means something to my wee man.
