12.01.2022 | MATCH REPORT- COLTS with Colts Coach Tom Henwood Preliminary Final v Sandgate After finishing 2nd on the ladder in the home and away season the boys had a much-needed week off in the first week of finals where we awaited the results on the Sandgate, Western Districts Elimination final. With Sandgate moving forward the stage was set for our biggest challenge to date- playing a team who we hadn’t played throughout the season.... With the unknown factor of our opposition, the playing group looked within and focused on our own strengths and weakness, setting small goals throughout the game that would add up to a win. The game started off fairly even with both sides having moments of dominance in play but the difference in the first quarter was small forward FLETCHER HEWITT who kicked our first three goals of the game. Unfortunately he would sustain a season ending leg injury during the second quarter. The second quarter saw Sandgate throw everything at us locking the ball in their forward half of the ground, but the backline stood strong. Captain NATHAN WILKIE and young gun TAJ BROMWICH showed composure under pressure driving the ball back up the ground again and again. At Half time we had a ten-point lead but the group new that wouldn’t be enough to win the game. The group rallied in the third and started to dominate the game. Our tall mids BRANDON BREWSTER and BAYLEE LUCAS started to control the ball going forward resulting in the team kicking 3 goals 4 in the quarter and holding our opposition scoreless. At three quarter time we had extended our lead to 32 points but the job wasn’t done. The message was to keep ticking off all our small goals that were set out before the game and to keep working to our structures. Again, we started of the quarter fast kicking three unanswered goals and putting the game out of Sandgate’s reach, we would run the game out 22-point winners and booking our spot in the groups third straight Grand Final appearance, where we will face off with Aspley. In a season where we would only play most teams once we have already played Aspley twice, once in a practice match and once in the home and away season. Last time we meet we beat Aspley by 11 points we will now look to draw experience from our last encounter and to win the ultimate goal on Saturday.

08.01.2022 | SHARKS MARCH AS ONE TO THE HOLY GRAIL The most extraordinary of years will reach its climax (football wise) at Dauth Park, Beenleigh TOMORROW as the Sharks take on Kenmore for the 2020 QFA Premiership. For Michael O’Keefe’s side, the year has all been about creating memories and celebrating the little things along the journey. Outside of the inner sanctum it is evident that there has been a significant focus on the experienced players that joined the group on the eve of t...he commencement of the season. Their contributions on and off the field are not to be understated but the coaching staff have held strong to the clubs vision that will see 10 players under 22 years of age and 15 Sharks juniors attempt to win the clubs second Senior flag in the return to community football era. In the Reserves, Coach Corey Burrell will be attempting to take the group to back to back glory and the third Ressies flag in 6 years. An amazing 18 members of Saturday’s outfit are Sharks juniors. One wonders where they would be playing or what they’d be doing if community footy didn’t make a return to the club back in 2015... The day will kick off with the next generation of Sharks attempting to emulate the performances of the Seniors and Reserves by making it to the Grand Final. Coach Tom Henwood has done an outstanding job with a group that has players aged 16-19. Let’s hope the youngsters set the tone for a massive day of footy.

05.01.2022 | MATCH REPORT- SENIORS with Senior Coach Michael O’Keefe Grand Final v Kenmore After an amazing year of ups and downs we finally reached the last game of the year.... Despite a dominant display against Coolangatta last week we knew we would be in for a much tougher assignment today. The game started off even with both sides sharing possession of the football but due to our skill errors it allowed Kenmore to take advantage of a slight breeze to take a 7 point lead into the 1st break 20 13. We needed to settle and match Kenmore’s intensity to work our way back into the game and with mids JAKE WARREN, TOM SALTER and AARON CHRISTENSEN giving our forwards plenty of supply we kicked 3 goals for the term to take the lead at half time in a low scoring game. 35 28. The start to the 3rd quarter was going to be the key to the game with a fired up Kenmore coming out hard and again aided by the breeze looked to control the game. Credit to our entire back half and in particular Captain LIAM EADIE and veteran MATT THOMSON as they limited Kenmore’s scoring opportunities before three late goals had them in front at the last change 48 38. Two early Kenmore goals effectively killed the contest despite an ADRIAN WILLIAMS goal mid quarter to bring us back within 14 points Kenmore’s depth and structure made it hard to bridge this gap with the Bears running out 23 point victors on the day. Thank you to all the game day support staff this year. Sorry we couldn’t bring home the big one for you.
