25.01.2022 I'd love to see all leaders in hospitality encouraging their teams to practice a little #MindfulHospitality. Especially at this time of year when things get a little crazy We up our expectations of our team at this time of year: Extra hours, extra shifts, longer days, later nights. Everyone works a little harder and of course... everyone plays a little harder. So check in with your team. Are they eating right? Are they sleeping ok? ... Are they overdoing it outside of work? Can you arrange a healthy meal to be provided a couple of times a week for your team? Can you arrange to meet for a bush walk every fortnight? Can you talk about sleep meditation apps like @buddhify or @Headspace Yes it is your business. Because taking care of them is your job as a leader. 22.01.2022 I had an experience at a restaurant recently. They were collecting contact tracing details via a QR Code. It worked first time for me. But every time my friend used the QR Code it took her to a different website. She asked the waitress, and showed her what was happening every time she scanned the code. The waitress peered at my friend’s phone screen, screwed up her nose, said No no that’s not our site. and walked away. 06.01.2022 This is how I plan my day in the morning. It takes 6.5 minutes. It helps my head to get in the game and organize all the to-do’s rattling around in there. Things don’t always go according to plan. But...starting the day with a clear head and a schedule means that when things DO go pear shaped, I can handle them with calm and clarity. On the flipside, if I don’t plan my day ahead of time, and a curveball gets thrown at me it’s just another thing that adds to my stress and ov...erwhelm and is often the straw that breaks the camels back. And my reaction Well... Let’s just say, not so calm... Give it a try. Spend a few minutes at the beginning and end of each day to prioritize and schedule. 02.01.2022 A good mantra to have in any venue! Is anyone else dealing with guests who are put out by your Covid compliance restrictions? Having to give you their details, limited time at tables, leaving deposits, no paper menus to provide? I’ve seen lots of venues implementing things in different ways. Some have used it as a way to connect but sadly others seem to get it so wrong, it becomes a way to disappoint and alienate. Don’t just tell your team what to do and how to comply, tell ...them what to say, how to read the situation, and how to handle it when met with negative reactions. Coach them on how to adjust to different personalities.
