16.01.2022 Always Was, Always Will Be. recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. They are spiritually and culturally connected to this country. This country was criss-crossed by generations of brilliant Nations.... Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. Australia has the world’s oldest oral stories. The First Peoples engraved the world’s first maps, made the earliest paintings of ceremony and invented unique technologies. They built and engineered structures - structures on Earth - predating well-known sites such as the Egyptian Pyramids and Stonehenge. Their adaptation and intimate knowledge of Country enabled us to endure climate change, catastrophic droughts and rising sea levels. Always Was, Always Will Be. acknowledges that hundreds of Nations and cultures covered this continent. All were managing the land - the biggest estate on earth - to sustainably provide for their future. Through ingenious land management systems like fire stick farming they transformed the harshest habitable continent into a land of bounty. NAIDOC Week 2020 acknowledges and celebrates that our nation’s story didn’t begin with documented European contact whether in 1770 or 1606 - with the arrival of the Dutch on the western coast of the Cape York Peninsula. The very first footprints on this continent were those belonging to First Nations peoples. Our coastal Nations watched and interacted with at least 36 contacts made by Europeans prior to 1770. Many of them resulting in the charting of the northern, western and southern coastlines of our lands and our waters. For First Nations peoples, this nation’s story began at the dawn of time. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. It’s about seeing, hearing and learning the First Nations’ 65,000+ year history of this country - which is Australian history. We want all Australians to celebrate that we have the oldest continuing cultures on the planet and to recognise that our sovereignty was never ceded. Always Was, Always Will Be. For local Onslow Celebrations please take a look at the attached poster and make sure to get involved in some of the fantastic events taking place over the next week. #NAIDOC Swan Districts Football Club

08.01.2022 Every year on August 4th we celebrate a special day, it is a day dedicated in celebrating the strengths & culture of both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ...Children across Australia. All Australians have the opportunity to show their support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, by learning about the crucial impact that culture, family and community play in the life of every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child. The Theme this is is 'We are the elders of tomorrow, Here our voice'- This honours our Elders, the custodians of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander traditional knowledge, passed down to their children through stories & culture practices. Elders are the holders of traditional knowledge, working to uphold the rights and improve the lives of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We thank and pay respect to past, present, and emerging traditional custodians of the land. Please take some time out of your day to learn something new about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture with your children, watch a movie, a Youtube clip, read any books you may have at home and even better take part in some amazing traditional practices here are some ideas- Being the theme is targeting our emerging Elders, we would like to see how the children of today see Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander culture (whether they are Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander or not). Using the supplied template draw what 'Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander culture means'. Please DM us at V Swans your child's picture. Make some yummy damper to celebrate Aboriginal Traditional Food here is a recipe- https://www.cookingforbusymums.com/traditional-aussie-damp/ Watch some great books read aloud books- https://vimeo.com/342171922 Happy #nationalaboriginalandtorresstraitislanderchildrensday
