When SMEs were asked approximately what percentage of the total losses did the claim cover, almost a quarter of broker users were covered for 100% of their claim, compared to only 10% of direct buyers. I thought I would share some ways/ideas in which to help reduce the chance of burglary. These things have learnt from my industry, security lighting experts, the police and Chubb security. 1)Lighting- think of public buildings and retail, they have all lighting around the perimeter. Thieves hate light and to be seen. Our area is poorly lit. Also insurance sta...ts show that if you live under a lamp post less chance of burglary...something to consider when parking your car at a shopping centre. 2) Blinds- please roll down your blinds at night, if they cant see in, they will move on. If your cant put blinds down, please remove all keys, wallets and iPads from kitchen benches. Give them no motivation to break in. 3) CCTV- this is now very cost effective, police and insurers like it. You can buy it from electronic retailers and diy kits. Vision can be seen on your phone. Although back to base alarm is still the best and insurers give you between 15-20% off your home insurance., cctv is now getting you a discount of about 5-10% this could also help you or your neighbour. 4) Bin night-stats show this is the night most home burglaries happen. Please ensure you put your bin out on the Sunday night in our case. If your going away, please ask your neighbour to put it out and let them know they can fill it, burglars check this! It helps determine if you are home. Same thing try and put your bin in straight after collection on Monday, otherwise once again they know you are out. Be a helpful neighbour. On a positive note, January is the highest recorded thefts and burglarys in Perth. So hopefully the worse is over!
