24.01.2022 Our health advice has served us well and helped protect Western Australians and a lifestyle which is the envy of much of the world. We have all made sacrifices throughout this global pandemic and now is not the time to let our guard down, be too relaxed or take unnecessary risks. We are now taking safe and steady steps to a new controlled border.... But the virus has not been defeated around the world and remains a threat to our way of life. New COVID cases are at a record high. We need to remain vigilant and stay at least 1.5 metres away from other people to protect yourself, your family and your community from infectious viruses. If visiting a venue that looks too busy and you wouldn't be able to remain physically distanced, try another venue, or pick a spot outside.

14.01.2022 We touch many common surfaces and objects every day, often without noticing. This increases the risk of spreading germs and other bacteria. If someone has COVID-19 and droplets from their cough or sneeze land on a surface, other people can become infected if they touch this and then touch their eyes, nose or mouth. That’s why it's so important when you’re out and about to:... wipe down and disinfect surfaces before and after use, if possible avoid touching your face wash or sanitise your hands often, including before eating wash or sanitise your hands again when you get home. Look out for: money, countertops, door handles, elevator buttons, hand rails, keyboards, petrol pumps and shopping trolleys. For more advice about keeping surfaces clean, visit bit.ly/35wT2eM

10.01.2022 South West COVID-19 update By now you would have heard about a Western Australian crew member who disembarked the Al Messilah before reports of symptomatic seafarers. While it’s ok to feel a little uneasy about stories running in the media, it’s important you have access to the facts. ... What you should know: Two Australian crew members on board the Al Messilah disembarked on 14 October wearing masks and with instructions to self-quarantine upon returning home. While the first person returned to their home state and is no longer in Western Australia, the second travelled alone to the South West where they usually reside. This person was directed to self-quarantine for a further four-day period given they had already been at sea for 10 days. When the first COVID case was confirmed on the vessel, public health made contact with the Western Australian crew member and immediately extended their quarantine requirements to ensure the full 14-days were met. This extension was made prior to the expiry of the first Direction and because of that, the crew member had not left their place of residence. This person has been tested for COVID-19 and returned a negative result. They will complete additional testing on day 12. Late yesterday, they also asked to be moved to a State-run quarantine hotel in Perth, where the remainder of their quarantine will now be undertaken. Here, the person journeyed in a private vehicle and was the only occupant. They did not stop and followed strict public health advice. As an added precaution and to further tighten our borders from the risk of COVID-19, the Maritime Direction has been updated to ensure all Australian crew members departing a vessel complete 14 days of hotel quarantine upon arrival in WA. 06.01.2022 There’s a new kid on the Emergency WA block! DFES and the Department of Health (HealthyWA) have partnered to customise the Emergency WA website (www.emergency.w...a.gov.au) to include map-based ‘human pandemic’ warnings if they’re needed. The website is now equipped to show localised outbreaks of COVID-19 and provide targeted information to communities impacted. While we hopefully don’t have to use it, this enhancement is part of the WA Government preparation for potential outbreaks of COVID-19 in WA. To help keep the community safe, remember to: Practise good hygiene and wash your hands regularly. Maintain a physical distance from others where possible. Stay home if you’re sick. If you’re experiencing symptoms, get tested immediately. Stay home and self-isolate if you are waiting for your test results.
