25.01.2022 Medication Awareness for Carers Session date: Wednesday 20th March Session duration: 10am 1pm (3 hours) Session cost; $60... Overview - Medication Awareness This session is recommended for anyone who, as part of their work role, is required to assist clients with medications. The session will provide participants with the essential knowledge required to safely and effectively provide that assistance, complete medication documentation and handle medication contingencies in the home or workplace. A person who requires supervision or assistance with medication usually has complex health care needs or a disability of some kind. However, it is important that the client be encouraged to maintain their independence with medication administration as much as possible. This session is specifically designed for care workers who are required to ‘assist’ a client to achieve this. Why choose this session? Medication awareness training is becoming an essential requirement in the aged, disability and community sectors. As more and more clients are choosing to remain in their own home to receive care assistance and with the government providing initiatives that now make that affordable, carers need to be adequately trained to carry out their assigned tasks. Residential and Homecare organisations have a Duty of Care to ensure that carers are not assigned to assist with medication unless they have been thoroughly trained. Topics include: About medication Following workplace guidelines How you can assist your client with self-medication Observing clients When things go wrong Report and write Protecting yourself Statement of Participation This is a non-accredited session. A Statement of Participation will be issued upon successful completion of the assessment.

Great news that the government is subsidising the training of Certificate III in Individual Support. (This course replaces the old Aged Care, Home and Community and Disability qualifications). Please let your friends know. I don't know how long the funding will last but we certainly have it now. Spread the word!
