17.01.2022 Throwback Thursday: The 2WG Women's Club was launched in 1937 by Ida (Nan) Roberts. The Club ran twice-daily broadcasts from the 2WG studio in Fitzmaurice Street, providing vital links for local women, some of whom were isolated on rural properties. Women could exchange greetings and news items, under creative pseudonyms such as "Shockaroo", "Ginger Mick" and "Lady Greensleeves". The Club was responsible for the establishment of Wagga's first Aged Care Facility, The Haven, i...n 1955, as well as raising money to provide practical support to new mothers, furnish the maternity ward at the hospital and purchase a mobile x-ray unit. You can find out more about the 2WG Women's Club by listening to interviews with some of the members, at https://amplify.gov.au/waggawagga #localstudies #waggahistory #2wgwomensclub #womenshistory

17.01.2022 Throwback Thursday: The Bathing Beach, Wagga, NSW. (The Rose Series P. 7457) This postcard featuring Wagga Beach is undated, but was donated to our Local Studies collection by Ed and Julie Tonks. St Michael's Cathedral can be seen in the background. George Rose was an Australian photographer who rose to prominence as a stereographer, producing 3-D photographs from the 1880s to 1920, taken on his journeys throughout Australia and the world.... After stereographs declined in popularity, Rose began producing postcards from around 1912. After Rose's death in 1942, other photographers continued his work under the Rose postcard name. #throwbackthursday #nswpubliclibraries #localstudies #waggahistory #waggabeach #visitwagga
