24.01.2022 Exhibition Wrap up ‘Scratching The Surface’ : WWPotters Club 2020 Exhibition at Wagga Wagga Art Gallery in the E3 art space... Nine days of sharing our love, of working with clay, with the community. Our members worked hard this year under unusual circumstances to produce work focusing on the treatment of the ceramic surface. Potters approached this theme individually, drawing on skills and techniques known and unknown in their practice...discovering ways the ceramic surface could be developed - resulting in the transformation of clay into beautiful, functional, and conceptual forms. The collection of works demonstrates the amazing results of our members who range in potting experience of 6months up to 63years! The works on display were made by Brian Barkworth Anne Carpenter Christine Chindamo Angela Halkias-Champ Mishka Harris Linda Lander Dianne Mahony Linda McLean Emily Mulvihill Rosemary Tucker The Potters Club are appreciative of patrons who took the time to visit the exhibition in person and hope that they enjoyed the visit and were inspired by the works on display. We are grateful to those who purchased artworks and wish you many moments of enjoyment in your homes. For those who were unable to attend please take a few moments to look through the images and appreciate the work our Potters put in, to produce work for this show. Angela Halkias-Champ (Special thanks to the staff at the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery for your role in facilitating and promotion of this event, and Sally Bryant on ABC Riverina for a great in studio chat about the Potters club on Thursday 17 Dec... ...and a big thank you to all the Potters who assisted in making this exhibition possible!!)

21.01.2022 2020...What a year it has been ! The Potters Club has been thriving this year once we got over the hurdle of reopening and potting with safe measures. So many new students keen to learn the craft of pottery, it’s great to see the enthusiasm! Through the guidance of our experienced, volunteer teachers, our students this year have achieved beautiful pieces to take home and appreciate or give to family and friends as gifts. Here is a selection of some of the finished work coming... out of the kiln in the last couple of weeks - made only possible through the dedicated members giving their time to guide students with the glazing and then firing their works in the kiln. Such a generous spirit in sharing their knowledge and experience with our new students or ones revisiting the craft! Well done students -a fantastic array of work, experimenting with form, method, texture and colour...we hope you enjoyed the experience... And a massive thank you to our teachers

12.01.2022 Saturday the 14th of November we said bonjour & welcomed Robert Linigen to @waggawaggapottersclub to hold a glaze workshop for a small group of very keen potters from Wagga Wagga and it’s surrounds. Attendees were entertained by Robert’s recount of his journey leading to his early career as a potter and passionate teacher of the craft. And we were moved hearing of the loss Robert and his family experienced due to bushfire and the struggles rebuilding and starting again. We a...re in awe of Robert’s resilience and resourceful nature in repurposing salvaged demolition materials to create beautiful glazes. We were walked through Robert’s knowledge on glaze materials, chemistry of the materials and their purpose within a glaze. Safety and handling of materials at different stages of glazing, developing and altering glazes , and durability in glazes. Robert covered firing techniques to induce different results and gave us many priceless tips for us to draw on as we continue our potting journeys. We had a break for lunch and were very privileged to chat informally with Robert and choose a beautiful piece of Robert’s work to take home with us. After Lunch Robert set up essential equipment to discuss and demonstrate his approach, and many technique options, to apply glaze to bisque ware. Specific Gravity of glazes and glaze consistency was also covered, and so much more. Throughout the course of the workshop we were able to fire many questions at Robert and discuss obstacles we encounter with our differing glazing and firing practices. Robert’s teaching was very generous, imparting much knowledge for all. Both green and seasoned potters alike walked away with teachings that will improve their potting practice and give them new skills to trial, develop and work into their practice- much gratitude for sharing your experience with us...And also sharing your humour and a meal with us...a massive thank you for joining us in Wagga Wagga @waggawaggapottersclub. It was an honour to meet you Robert, safe travels back to the Mountains ....au revoir et merci beaucoup!! Angela Champ

07.01.2022 A very inspiring visit to the Canberra Potters Gallery space to view the joint exhibition of Blue mountain’s potter Robert Linigen and the sculptural works of Steve Roper. Robert’s work explores the use of salvaged building debris, metals, ash, glass & weeds which were incorporated into making glazes. Robert lost his home and pottery studio in the 2013 bushfires. The WW Potters club is looking forward to welcoming Robert to Wagga Wagga in the near future and learning from him.

03.01.2022 Fabulous results from yesterday’s slab building workshop at the E3 space as part of the club’s ‘free’ community engagement workshop linked to our current exhibition at the E3space Participants were taught how to form a vessel, planter or decorative container using the slab construction method. Will be great to see the results when they are glazed and completed by being fired in the kiln.

02.01.2022 Midweek potting session for our members involved not only working with clay on the wheel, but also using a different type of kiln and learning some new skills from one of our very creative members. Anne brought her copper enamelling supplies and kiln that is used for making copper enamel jewellery. She talked us through the various stages of preparation, materials and firing techniques and safety. We were able to create enamelled pieces using finely ground glass powders, glas...s rods and small beads arranged on a copper sheet base. Lots of fun and great results...thanks Anne...you’ve got us hooked!!!
